Carolina Recruits Media Day: DB Review Part 1

The defensive backs were one of the youngest position groups at the inaugural Carolina Recruits Media Day, but there was no shortage of talent. This group featured several promising underclassmen who already have the athleticism, confidence, and skill set to make an impact this season. With plenty of room to develop, the future is bright in the secondary. Here's Part 1 of the defensive backs who stood out at Carolina Recruits Media Day. [player_tooltip player_id='2267040' first='Jamir' last='Hudson'] is a versatile defensive back with the size and physicality to make an impact around the line of scrimmage. He has a great frame with long arms and plays with an aggressive mentality that immediately shows up on film. Hudson is comfortable playing in the box, where he can be physical against the run and use his length to his advantage. He also brings a strong leadership presence to the East Columbus defense. As his frame continues to develop, Hudson could eventually transition to linebacker at the next level while maintaining the athleticism and coverage ability of a defensive back. [player_tooltip player_id='2267042' first='Braxton' last='Rhodes'] enters his senior season at Glenn looking to become a true shutdown presence in the secondary. He plays with strength, aggression, and confidence, bringing the mentality you want from a defensive back. Rhodes is a playmaker who wants opposing quarterbacks to think twice before throwing to his side of the field. He has set a big goal of eight interceptions this season, and with his aggressive style and ability to make plays on the football, he'll have plenty of opportunities to make his presence felt. [player_tooltip player_id='2267043' first='Semaj' last='Peterson'] is another two-way senior playmaker for Glenn who brings plenty of toughness to the secondary. Peterson is physical at the line of scrimmage and plays with a pesky, aggressive style that makes receivers work for everything. His versatility stands out, as he can line up inside at nickel or move to the perimeter and play corner. That ability to move around the secondary gives Glenn another experienced and dependable piece on defense heading into the season. [player_tooltip player_id='2267044' first='Elijah' last='Campbell'] is a 2028 defensive back from Lumberton with good size, natural ability, and a fearless approach to the game. He plays with great instincts, reacting quickly and putting himself in position to make plays. Campbell really stands out as an open-field tackler, showing the confidence to come downhill and finish against ball carriers in space. With his combination of size, instincts, and physicality, Campbell is a young defensive back with plenty of upside as he continues to develop. [player_tooltip player_id='2267047' first='Jazyon' last='Hill'] was one of only two freshmen at Carolina Recruits Media Day, and the young Lumberton defensive back is definitely a name to remember. Hill already has Power Four-level size for his position despite being at the very beginning of his high school career. His frame and natural ability give him tremendous upside as he continues to develop and gain experience. There is a long way to go, but Hill has the physical tools you simply can't teach. Remember the name.
