Last Season (0-8)

It can't get much worse for Cardozo next season. They didn't play many close games all season, but, to be fair, they played some very solid teams such as James Madison High School and Harry S. Truman. They struggled, but they've got multiple ranked Prep RedZone players returning. They have some great players returning next season and look to build towards improvement. Let's dive into some of their fun prospects!

Top Prospect

[player_tooltip player_id='2124806' first='Aqeel' last='Khan'] is a super solid offensive lineman. He's very rarely moved off his spot, and has the ability to drive defensive lineman upfield. He can move in space a bit and could have real potential as a pulling interior lineman. Playing center helps to give him some more value as a prospect, and he could easily slot in at guard as well. I'd love to see him play a bit more nasty. He has the strength to take defensive linemen to the ground, I'd love to see him play with a bit more intensity and finish plays to the ground. I know he can, it's about unlocking that part of his game. He'll definitely be a good interior lineman at the next level, and is our top prospect at Benjamin N. Cardozo for a reason.

X-Factors

[player_tooltip player_id='1939126' first='Jermaine' last='Smith'] is a really good athlete and receiver. He's a dual athlete and plays track as well. He's a bit undersized-but the size is offset a bit by his speed and athleticism. He'll be a senior headed into this next year, I'm expecting big things for him as one of the best returning players on this team.

Salcedo is an athletic DB who isn't afraid to get down and dirty and get dirty. He's best moving downhill towards the ballcarrier and is fearless when coming up to tackle runningbacks. He's got a lot of versatility and ability to play all across the field, play nickel, play outside corner. He can stay with receivers as well. I like his size a lot-6 foot is incredibly solid for a high school DB. He's a guy to be on the lookout for as he enters his senior season.

Fralick's got really good size for a quarterback his age. He frequently looks to push the ball down the field and outside the numbers. He's got enough arm strength to do it as well and is able to put the ball out in front of his receivers consistently. He displays the ability to throw with anticipation. I'd love to see him on the move a bit more to get a feel for his mobility, and see him throw with some more velocity. I noticed the ball seemed to flutter on him in the air a bit. I like his mentality to push the ball though, and his outside throws consistently give his receivers a chance to make a play.

Breakout Player

Ugwu is a rising senior linebacker with really good size (6 foot, 230) who has a really interesting athletic profile. He's a violent tackler, and his length and first step make him an instant candidate to really break out next year when he receives even more snaps. I'm looking forward to seeing him in his final year of high school football and how he can put together his physical tools with a few years of experience.

Names to Know

Position

Player

Class

Notes

DB

Steven Milton Miller

2029

Freshman that played varsity his first year

OL/DL

Amarjot Singh

2027

Rising senior lineman that plays both ways

OL/DL

[player_tooltip player_id='2152258' first='Omari' last='Reynolds']

2029

Freshman that played varsity-looking to hit a growth spurt

Key Losses

DB- Isaiah Garraud
WR- Aaron Robinson
WR- Michael Joseph Pierre
DB- Kenneth Blackman

Schedule

https://www.psal.org/profiles/team-profile.aspx#005/26505

2026 Outlook

I have confidence that things will improve for Cardozo next season. They've got a senior quarterback returning, they've got a really good offensive lineman returning, and an athletic receiver I have a lot of confidence in returning. They've got some other exciting seniors on the rise as well. They've got some difficult teams on their schedule, like Eagle Academy III, but other teams they should be able to keep up with, like Lehman Campus who also went 0-8 last season. The senior leadership and returning talent should lead to a much more successful season for Cardozo headed into the year.
