[player_tooltip player_id='1974488' first='Cason' last='Reed'] East Nashville:

[player_tooltip player_id='1974488' first='Cason' last='Reed'] was one of the catalysts for a big win for East Nashville as they went down to Collierville and beat the 6A power. Reed played got several carries at running back including a big TD, but we'll focus on his exploits on the defensive end. He showed off his versatility by lining up at boundary corner and free safety. His instincts were off the charts, breaking on multiple passes as soon as they were thrown. His ball skills were evident when he high pointed a key interception when Collierville was driving. Reed already has multiple FBS offers including Charlotte and Memphis, more are on the way with these types of performances.

[player_tooltip player_id='2112007' first='King' last='Gardner'] DCA:

The DCA athlete is probably more known for exploits on the offensive side of the ball but in Week 1, he made a major impact as a corner. Gardner kept his eyes focused on the QB while guarding his man, and that focus caused him to snag 2 interceptions, including one for a TD. He had the ability to break from his man and find the ball on an errand pass and with his skills in the open field, he can make a big play after the turnover. Gardner isn't the biggest player at roughly 170lbs but clearly had no problem of being physical at the line of scrimmage, he made tackles in the run game without hesitation. DCA is looking for a deep run in the D-2 A playoffs and Gardner will be one of the keys for the Wildcats.

[player_tooltip player_id='1565681' first='Devin' last='Phillips'] East Nashville:

When you hold a team to 7 pts that averaged 42.6 the year before, you'll get multiple players from the same team on this list. The 6'4 285 junior is a physical presence in the middle is undeniable Multiple times in Week 1 he collapsed the pocket making it difficult for the Collierville passing offense to get going and in the run game he constantly force backs wide where the rest of the fast East Nashville defense was ready to converge. Phillips' recruiting has heated up over the last few days with an offer to Georgia, the offers will continue to roll in if has more performances like he did in Week 1.

[player_tooltip player_id='1847720' first='Mikhai' last='Moshay'] Pearl-Cohn:

The 4A contenders fell short in Week 1 to MBA, but Moshai had himself a game to remember with 2 interceptions for touchdowns. Something you rarely see at any level especially for someone who lineups with his hand on the turf. His instincts were incredible to be able to read both plays while being blocked and then turn into a running back with a pair of long returns. The numbers last year for Moshay were impressive 58 tackles, 17 TFL's and 6 sacks. He doesn't need to get 2 pick sixes every week, but he'll be one of the defensive keys as Pearl-Cohn navigates a tough early season schedule.

[player_tooltip player_id='2097875' first='Justin' last='Williams'] Stratford:

After seeing Williams in person after the 1st scrimmage, and through out the preseason, it was obvious that he's going to be a problem for opposing QB's this season. His 1st step is deadly and in Week 1 he caused problems all night to the tune 5 tackles and 3 sacks, and a pass defended. Only a junior Williams is coming into his physically after transferring from Riverdale in the offseason. He's already received offers from Arkansas St and Memphis and if he keeps having performances like he did in Week 1 those offers will continue to roll in. He's got good size at 6'2 225 and has improved as a run defender, there is a real potential to have a monster year for Williams.
