As Arkansas high school football camps ramp up and the 2026 season draws near, several programs across the state are positioned for notable jumps and seasons. Whether through coaching continuity or change, returning experience after solid (or rebuilding) 2025 campaigns, or emerging talent that flashed in the spring, these teams have the ingredients for breakthrough seasons. Here's a look at six programs that stand out to have a successful 2026 season.

7A: Har-Ber Wildcats

The Har-Ber Wildcats finished 3-8 in 2025 (2-5 conference) in a tough 7A West, but the foundation is shifting under head coach Aaron Danenhauer. The former longtime Bentonville offensive coordinator took over ahead of the 2025 season and is entering his second year with a clear vision and upside.

Spring evaluations highlighted several key players ready to elevate the program. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1247592' first='Cyler' last='Moore'] has continued his rise as he stood out for his post-snap recognition, sideline-to-sideline motor, and ability to shed blocks and make plays at the point of attack. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1549140' first='Brice' last='Owens'] returns with his dual threat ability and a prove-it season for his senior year. Running back [player_tooltip player_id='1923552' first='Reed' last='McAllister'] is a physical and patient running back who can set up good down to distant situations. The Wildcats also have one of the top tight end rooms in Arkansas, which includes Columbia commit [player_tooltip player_id='457238' first='Treyson' last='Reith'], senior [player_tooltip player_id='2207667' first='Gibson' last='Green'], who sets the tone, and rising tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1691675' first='Eli' last='Roper'] with D1 potential. Not to mention rising offensive linemen in [player_tooltip player_id='2167587' first='Hudson' last='Mayhew'], [player_tooltip player_id='2105191' first='Kaeden' last='Lowrance'], and edge [player_tooltip player_id='1702665' first='Hans' last='Oelschlaeger']. Younger talent like [player_tooltip player_id='2102537' first='Wylie' last='Gardisser'] also turned heads.

6A: Searcy Lions

The Searcy Lions aren't really a breakout team after a dominating 9-2 mark season in 2025, as they reached the playoffs under head coach Zak Clark, a former Razorback who has steadily built the program. That success provides a high floor heading into 2026 with a state championship in sight.

The Lions return star quarterback, [player_tooltip player_id='1195596' first='Jacob' last='Miles'], who earned Sophomore All-State and top underclassman from us. Defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1198671' first='Braceson' last='Mitchell'] is a next-level talent with elite size in the trenches. He'll also see reps at offensive tackle this fall. Their linebacker core in [player_tooltip player_id='1247596' first='Kayden' last='Hickman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1195586' first='William' last='Gaines'] is one of the best in the state as they fly to the football. The Lions return a talented group overall, with impressive underclassmen, and the program is showing depth that should translate to another competitive conference run and deeper postseason hopes in 6A.

5A: Farmington Cardinals

Few programs have been as reliably competitive in recent years as the Farmington Cardinals. They went 9-3 in 2025 before a narrow playoff exit, losing to eventual state champions Joe T. Robinson 24-21. They enter 2026 with plenty of returning talent, positioning them to compete in 5A.

Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='594778' first='Slade' last='Norwood'], who holds D1 offers from Eastern Michigan and Northern Colorado, is the centerpiece of their program. He's accurate, coachable, capable of fitting balls into tight windows, and has the arm strength to push the ball downfield. Offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='2101374' first='Asa' last='Johnson'] is their most versatile piece upfront as he can play multiple positions. He plays with physicality and will finish blocks at the point of attack. [player_tooltip player_id='1633335' first='Tucker' last='Wood'] transferred in from Pea Ridge and is expected to see tons of targets. [player_tooltip player_id='1938679' first='JJ' last='Moore'] is another impressive wide receiver, and younger contributors like [player_tooltip player_id='1703234' first='Deacon' last='Heim'] are prospects to watch.

4A: Ashdown Panthers

The Ashdown Panthers endured a difficult 1-9 campaign in 2025 under head coach Eryc McCaslin, who is working to stabilize and rebuild the program after previous playoff appearances.

A full offseason of development and continuity in the coaching staff should help the Panthers take a step forward in 4A. With young players gaining experience and the program emphasizing growth, Ashdown has the opportunity to reverse the recent skid, improve its conference standing, and potentially return to the postseason. Key prospects include wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1655900' first='Bryson' last='French'], slot [player_tooltip player_id='2153953' first='Thomas' last='Cale Cleghorn'], D1 talent in [player_tooltip player_id='2198360' first='Mario' last='Lewis'], who competes on both sides of the trenches, and young rising running back [player_tooltip player_id='2068909' first='Cordae' last='Baker']. They're not state title contenders, but expect a higher win total in 2026.

3A: Atkins Red Devils

The Atkins Red Devils put together a solid 9-3 season in 2025 (5-2 conference) under head coach Austin Dobbs and advanced in the playoffs. That success creates momentum rather than pressure heading into 2026.

With proven production from the previous year and a coach who has emphasized program culture, Atkins returns enough experience to stay near the top of its 3A classification. The Red Devils are built to contend again for the conference title and another playoff run. They have a key transfer running back in [player_tooltip player_id='1861211' first='Brelan' last='Criswell'], who is likely their most athletic and explosive player on the roster. They also return all-conference running back [player_tooltip player_id='2172420' first='Cooper' last='Goodall'] as their running back room is scary. Prospects such as all-conference [player_tooltip player_id='2224312' first='Chance' last='Cauthen'], [player_tooltip player_id='2237475' first='Lucas' last='Shannon'], and All-State [player_tooltip player_id='2084681' first='Dayton' last='Rawlings'] set the tone and the culture.

2A: Marked Tree Indians

Marked Tree finished 3-7 in 2025 under longtime head coach Waylon Dunn after stronger recent seasons that included a 10-win season and deep playoff runs. The drop offers a clear path for rebound and competitiveness heading into 2026.

Dunn's experience and the program's history of competing at a high level in 2A suggest the Indians can climb back toward .500 or better due to returning contributors in quarterback PJ Powell, wide receivers [player_tooltip player_id='1506773' first='Dontavous' last='White'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1266738' first='Dmarion' last='White'], while including versatile prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1265738' first='Jaiden' last='Andrews']. A renewed focus should help Marked Tree rediscover the form that produced strong seasons in prior years and make noise in a competitive classification.
