Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

Colleges have done well in mining Iowa's 2027 recruiting class. Twelve different guys have verbally committed to Power 4 programs. Quite a few others have pledged to FBS and FCS schools.

Even with those sizable numbers, a lot of talent from the state for the cycle remains in the board. Here's a closer look at a group of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='1105167' first='Riley' last='Orr'], OL, Waterloo West

Announced offers: Morningside.

The Situation: Orr was an integral part of an offensive line that helped guide Waterloo West to a second consecutive postseason appearance in 2025. A balanced attack achieved more than 3,000 total yards and 35 touchdowns against a formidable schedule. Orr proved to be powerful and agile, which gives him flexibility to play inside or out on the next level. His highest upside is at guard or center, the latter being where he would bring the most impact. If he can master the intricacies of the position, the skills are there for success. It's burst off the snap, quick movements inside and ability to reach blocks in space.

On June 30, Orr announced an offer from Morningside to play college football. He visited Wartburg and Upper Iowa in the spring.

[player_tooltip player_id='1361299' first='Nickolas' last='Osborne'], LB, Waukee

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Osborne will be lining up at Waukee this fall after a productive 2025 campaign at Dallas Center-Grimes. Twenty three of his 29.0 tackles were solo stops, and he had 5.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. His highlight video reveals a lighter defensive tackle that beat offensive line interiors with speed. Osborne lists himself as a linebacker, which is a more natural position for his body type. It's a frame that can comfortably add mass without the loss of athleticism, too. Perhaps he will line up on the second level for the Warriors, deliver and increase his college stock.

Osborne camped with Central Missouri, Iowa State, Pittsburgh State, Drake, Northern Iowa and Colorado School of the Mines. He also attended multi-college camps at South Dakota State and Fordham.

[player_tooltip player_id='2086818' first='Corbyn' last='Padgett'], OL/DL, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont

Announced offers: Buena Vista, St. Norbert, Simpson.

The Situation: Padgett picked up all-district honors last season as an Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont junior in 2025. He's looks comfortable and capable lining up at right guard. His skill set and body type work well on the interior. It's a power profile that overwhelms opponents and has them on their heels. Padgett gets off the ball quickly and into their chests. He utilizes his strong hands well and plays through the whistle. The footwork is smooth, which helps effectiveness in pass protection.

Buena Vista became the first school offering Padgett a chance to play college football when it did so in April. St. Norbert and Simpson have followed. He's visited Coe and MSU-Moorhead.

[player_tooltip player_id='1199295' first='Keenan' last='Pals'], ATH, East Buchanan

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Pals is a good all-around athlete capable of helping colleges on the football field or baseball diamond. He threw for 14 touchdowns and ran for nine more as an East Buchanan junior last fall. This summer, he logged an .829 OPS and 2.08 ERA as a two-way standout. On the gridiron, Pals could continue being developed as a dual-threat dynamo. The athleticism and speed he brings to quarterback also fits at other positions should progress stall behind center. He did register 40 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks last season. Receiver could be a possibility with his ability to make defenders miss in space. All that said, there's upside at signal caller with arm strength, poise and play-making ability.

Pals isn't publicly reporting any college interest. If that means he's not receiving any, it's an obvious oversight.

[player_tooltip player_id='2086034' first='Jackson' last='Perdue'], S, Red Oak

Announced offers: Morningside.

The Situation: Perdue contributed 79 yards rushing and 17 catches for 179 yards but really impacted games on defense last year. The junior collected 45.0 tackles (36 solo) with 3.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, an interception and six passes defended. He also returned punts. The three-phase contributions illustrate versatility and athleticism. Perdue provides evidence of that during his 11th-grade highlight video. He's a disruptive defender with a high football IQ that flies to the football. He's physical and breaks down properly when tackling.

Dordt became the first college to offer Perdue a chance at the next level. Morningside has done the same. He visited those schools along with UW-Platteville, Northwestern College, Central College and Drake this year.
