Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2026 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Kingfisher Yellowjackets!

RELATED

- Kingfisher Video Preview With HC Reagan Roof

Kingfisher Yellowjackets

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #10 In Class 3A

Head Coach: Reagan Roof - 3rd Season - 13-10 Record At Kingfisher

2025 RESULTS (8-4 Record - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals)

Sept. 5th - Lost To Weatherford 28-27 (OT)
Sept. 12th - Beat Clinton 35-28 (OT)
Sept. 19th - Beat Bridge Creek 45-12
Sept. 26th - Beat Pauls Valley 42-0
Oct. 3rd - Beat Purcell 57-42
Oct. 10th - Lost To Heritage Hall 26-7
Oct. 17th - Beat Star Spencer 42-6
Oct. 23rd - Beat North Rock Creek 34-0
Oct. 31st - Lost To Anadarko 21-14
Nov. 7th - Beat Plainview 30-26
1st Round - Beat Lone Grove 43-36
Quarterfinals - Lost To Lincoln Christian 55-0

2025 Offensive Scoring Average: 31.3 Points Per Game
2025 Defensive Scoring Average: 23.3 Points Per Game

The Kingfisher Yellowjackets came into the 2025 football season with high expectations. They went 5-6 in 2024 but they brought nearly everyone back and were a solid top ten team in Class 3A heading into the season. They played like a top ten team for the majority of the season. They opened the year with back to back overtime games against 4A programs Weatherford and Clinton. They lost the first and won the second. The Yellowjackets were 4-1 at the halfway mark of the regular season. They lost a tough week six game to Heritage Hall and then tripped up on Halloween night, losing to Anadarko in week nine. They bounced back the following week with a win over Plainview to finish the regular season with a 7-3 record and a second place finish in the district. That gave the Yellowjackets a home playoff game in the first round, where they took care of business, beating Lone Grove 43-36. The following week, they had to go on the road to face defending champion Lincoln Christian in the quarterfinals. The season came to an end there, as they lost 55-0 to the Bulldogs. Lincoln would of course go on to win a third consecutive state championship. But year two under head coach Reagan Roof was another step in the right direction. After a 5-6 campaign in 2024, they would go 8-4 and win a playoff game in 2025. Now, as the page turns and we start to look ahead to the 2026 season, the excitement level for Kingfisher football continues to be high and the possibilities of this fall feel as wide open as they've been in a while.

2026 OUTLOOK

Kingfisher comes into this season as a top ten team in Class 3A and they expect to be right back in the mix in 2026. They are going to look somewhat different on the offensive side of the ball. Even though nine starters return on offense, don't be surprised if the Yellowjackets still look different as they have to replace a multi-year starter at the quarterback position. That's obviously not an easy thing to do but Kingfisher is confident with what they have at that position. It also wouldn't be surprising to see them running the football more this fall behind a very strong offensive line. Kingfisher averaged a little over 30 points per game last season. We think this year's team has the potential to match that mark, if not exceed it. The defense will have more new faces as they return six starters from last year's team. But nevertheless, anytime you're bringing back 15 of 22 starters from a team that made it to the quarterfinals the year before, you're going to go into that season with some confidence. And it's year three under head coach Reagan Roof going into this season so this team is used to the new system. Now, the biggest hurdle will be the district slate. Kingfisher finds themselves in one of, if not the toughest district in the state, regardless of class. A good team is going to get left out of the playoffs. Kingfisher expects to be one of the four teams that will be playing when November rolls around.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Cale Reagan - Defensive Lineman (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Jhett Birdwell - Quarterback (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Kason Blair - Wide Receiver/Defensive Back (2025 All State Honorable Mention)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

2028 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1716127' first='Brett' last='Calamateo'] is changing positions after starting for the Yellowjackets at running back last season. He's staying in the backfield but moving to quarterback heading into this year. Kingfisher is going from a more pass-first offense to a run-first offense and Calamateo is going to be the guy to get the job done this fall. Last year, he ran for nearly 700 yards and ten touchdowns. This season, his production is expected to go up in a major way. While he will be a run-first threat in this offense, don't overlook his ability to beat defenses with his arm when he has to. He'll also benefit from having a really strong offensive line leading the way for him up front.

2027 wide receiver and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1831621' first='Brody' last='Boeckman'] comes into this season as one of Kingfisher's better two-way players. The Yellowjackets have plenty of those guys but Boeckman was incredibly productive on both sides of the ball last season. Offensively, he caught 22 passes for nearly 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Then he turned around and had over 60 tackles and was a fumble machine, forcing five on the season. Boeckman was also an impact player for Kingfisher in special teams during his junior season. He took two kicks back for touchdowns in 2025. Now, it would be very surprising if Boeckman didn't take his game up another notch this fall.

Right there with Boeckman in regards to dominant two-way players is 2027 wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1837854' first='Carter' last='Stephenson'] heading into this fall. Last year, Stephenson was a big play threat for the Yellowjackets at the receiver position. He caught 24 passes for over 400 yards and had three touchdowns. Defensively, he also added over 40 tackles and two interceptions. Whenever Stephenson got the ball in his hands, good things usually happened so we're definitely interested to see how they continue to use him in the offense moving forward. Defensively, he's one of the returning starters that will be able to help some of the new guys come along.

We mentioned earlier how Kingfisher was going to have a strong offensive line returning. 2028 offensive lineman Donovan leads the way in that category. Dunn is going to be a three-year starter for the Yellowjackets this fall after starting during his freshman season and never letting that job go. As Kingfisher goes to more of a run-first attack, that's going to open the door for Dunn and the rest of the Kingfisher offensive line to just pin their ears back and bulldoze their way forward this season. We really like the size and overall experience that Kingfisher brings back on the line of scrimmage. Dunn is definitely a name to watch out for in the state's 2028 class.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='1837862' first='Carson' last='Swafford'] - 2028 Offensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1829245' first='Collin' last='Farrar'] - 2029 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1833996' first='Drew' last='Snider'] - 2029 Running Back/Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1833987' first='Eduardo' last='De La Torre'] - 2027 Defensive Lineman

2026 SCHEDULE

Sept. 4th - Cashion
- The 2026 football season will kick off with a very interesting match-up for Kingfisher. They will host Cashion in week one. And as far as we know, this will be the first time that these two neighboring towns will go head to head on the gridiron. Cashion comes into this season as a top five team in Class 2A-2 and will be a tough challenge.
Sept. 11th - Clinton
- Kingfisher hosts Clinton in week two and this will be the fifth straight year that these two meet in non-district play. The series did not start well for the Yellowjackets as they dropped the first three. But they knocked off the Red Tornadoes 35-28 in overtime last season. Clinton will be coming into this season with a first year head coach.
Sept. 18th - AT Bridge Creek
- The Yellowjackets wrap up non-district play with their first road game of the season. They will travel to face Bridge Creek in week three and this is the third straight year these two have faced off in non-district play. They've played off and on for the last two decades and Kingfisher has never lost. They beat Bridge Creek 45-12 last season.
Sept. 25th - AT North Rock Creek
- Kingfisher opens up district play on the road against North Rock Creek in week four. These two teams have been district opponents since 2022 and the Yellowjackets come into this season with a 3-1 record against NRC. Last season, the Yellowjackets rolled to a 34-0 win over North Rock Creek and that ended being their largest winning margin of the year.
Oct. 2nd - Oklahoma Christian School
- The Yellowjackets return home in week five to host Oklahoma Christian School. The Saints are the first of three new district opponents that are moving up to 3A from 2A-1 this season. These two teams haven't played since they were district opponents in 2016 and 2017. This game will be a family affair as the head coaches of both of these programs are brothers.
Oct. 9th - AT Plainview
- Kingfisher heads south to square off with Plainview in week six. This game has to be circled based solely on how close the last two meetings played out. Plainview won 15-13 in 2024 while the Yellowjackets won 30-26 last season. Both teams come into this season as top ten teams and expect to contend for the district title.
Oct. 15th - Marlow
- On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, Kingfisher will welcome in Marlow for another monster district clash featuring preseason top ten teams. Marlow is another new district opponent after moving up from 2A-1. Kingfisher hasn't faced the Outlaws since they beat them in the 2019 playoffs and come into this year with a 10-game winning streak against Marlow.
Oct. 23rd - AT Purcell
- Following the gauntlet start to the month of October, Kingfisher will then go on the road to face Purcell in week eight. These two have been district opponents the last two seasons and it's been a series owned by the Yellowjackets. Kingfisher has won both meetings but last year's game was a very high-scoring affair that saw Kingfisher win 57-42.
Oct. 30th - Mount St. Mary
- Kingfisher hosts Mount St. Mary in week nine in another match-up of top ten teams heading into this season. The Yellowjackets and Rockets were district opponents for the majority of the last ten years but Mount St. Mary is back in Class 3A after being in 2A-1 the last two years. The Yellowjackets have never lost to the Rockets in football.
Nov. 6th - AT McLoud
- The regular season comes to an end in week ten with a road trip to McLoud to face the Redskins. McLoud is back on the schedule after these two teams didn't play in the last two years. They were district opponents from 2020-2023 and the Yellowjackets had a 4-0 record against McLoud during that time. They won 42-3 in the last meeting.

NOTABLE

No matter what year it is or what kind of situation the Yellowjackets find themselves in, the expectation is to be a playoff team. Last season, Kingfisher punched their ticket to the playoffs for the 26th consecutive time. Only nine other schools in the state have a longer active playoff streak. Cascia Hall has the state record and holds the longest active streak with 39 consecutive playoff appearances. For Kingfisher, they've been a playoff team every season since the turn of the century. But as they enter the 2026 football season, Kingfisher's expectations aren't just to extend that streak. They expect to not only make it back to the playoffs but make a run once they get there. In the last ten years, Kingfisher made it to the semifinals just once (2018) and they are hungry to make it back. We're getting close to the 20 year anniversary of the beginning of the most successful stretches in Kingfisher football history. From 2007-2013, Kingfisher made five appearances in the state title game. They're hungry to get back to that and the pursuit of it will begin this fall.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2025 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals
2024 - 5-6 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round
2023 - 4-7 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round
2022 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals
2021 - 6-5 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

2 State Championships

2013 - Beat Blanchard 30-23
2003 - Beat Sulphur 21-18
