Emerging Defensive Prospects In The 2027 Class

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Here's a closer look at the emerging defensive names to know from the 2027 class. From disruptive lineman to ball-hawking defensive backs, these are the prospects building their recruitment going into their senior year.</strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Bondi's recruitment is building at the right time heading into his senior after picking up his first two offers from D2 programs Western Colorado and CSU-Pueblo. At 5'11” 175 lbs. he's a high IQ safety that is an effective playmaker against both the run and pass. Demonstrates good awareness and instincts allowing him to diagnose route combinations quickly to close separation and throwing lanes. Possesses the versatility to work down into the box to match up in man coverage on a slot or fill as a run stopper. Great understanding of his assignment and consistently makes the play when it comes his way. He's got great length and frame for a CB at 6'1” 180 lbs. Strong technique shows up across the board, whether he's playing press man or off coverage. Stays in phase in man coverage and shows good understanding of zone concepts using good eye discipline. Efficient with his footwork to match movement and plays with active hands to disrupt route lines and timing. Plus ball skills round out his skillset giving him the ability to make plays at the catch point once he closes in. Surprising to see it take so long for his recruitment to get going but checks a lot of boxes to reel in more college attention as a senior. Scott is an all around defensive playmaker. He's a strong run stopper, can rush the QB as a blitzer, and drop back into coverage to limit the underneath passing game. He plays with good instincts, reading his keys quickly and getting downhill to fill running lanes. Good range gives him the ability to play sideline to sideline and is a sure tackler at the POA. In coverage, he takes good zone drops and shows the awareness to relate to routes and drive on the ball. Still has room to add mass to his frame but his combination of instincts and range gives him a strong foundation to build on. As a junior he racked up 72 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. At 6'0” 275 lbs. he's strong, powerful, and violent at the POA. Dominates the LOS and controls the run game by creating immediate knock back on the snap to clog the middle of the line. As a pass rusher, he collapses the pocket with that same power, consistently forcing quarterbacks off their spot before the play can develop. He moves well at his size, showing good short area burst to redirect and chase the ball carrier between the tackles. In 2025, he was voted first team all-region after posting 49 tackles (33 solo), 8 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. Flashes good long speed and short area quickness. His change of direction is smooth with the flexibility in his hips to transition out to turn and run efficiently. Clean footwork allows him to stay in phase at all three levels and excels when challenged vertically. Strong at the catch point he competes at the high point with good timing and plays through the hands to disrupt receivers. Plays fast and confident in coverage and when working downhill in to make a tackle after the catch or in run support.
