Behind a strong senior group, the Adair Warriors came into the 2025 season with expectations of contending for the state championship. As freshmen, this group went 2-8 and missed the playoffs. They went 8-4 and 11-1 in the following two seasons. They were ready to climb the rest of the mountain and raise that gold ball. The Warriors were #3 in our 2A-2 preseason rankings, behind defending champ Davis and runner up Vian. The Warriors got out to a fast start, going 4-0 in the first month with a close call against Inola and a solid win in the district opener against Salina. The Warriors would light up the scoreboard from there. In the final five weeks of the regular season, Adair scored at least 49 points every single week. They finished off the regular season with a 10-0 record and a district championship for the second straight year. They beat Wilburton with ease in the first round but that would be the last easy win for the Warriors. They had to claw out a 20-14 win over Holdenville in the quarterfinals. They were also pushed to overtime with Stroud in the semifinals, before prevailing 42-40 after a goal line stand on Stroud's two-point conversion. That set up a championship game with Vian that would be one of the best title games of the 2025 season. Both teams exchanged blow after blow and big play after big play. It was an exciting game from start to finish. Adair went up 34-29 and the defense would come up big, forcing several turnovers in the fourth quarter, including an interception in the end zone on the final play of the game to seal the 34-29 win. Adair capped off their 14-0 season with their second state title in program history and the first since 2015.

2026 OUTLOOK

As the page turns and we start looking ahead to the 2026 season, Adair will be the hunted in Class 2A-2 as the defending champion. The Warriors certainly look like a team that can go after another state championship. But things are going to look very different, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. The Warriors bring back five starters from last season but they have to replace their quarterback, running back and some of their top wide receivers, in addition to some offensive linemen. This was a unit that averaged over 40 points per game last season and had big play potential every time they stepped on the field. But now, there is no doubt that things will look different and these new faces will need some time to gel in order to go after another state championship. Fortunately for the Warriors, while their offense is getting used to the speed under the Friday night lights, they can lean on their defense. They bring back the majority of starters on that side of the ball with seven starters returning on defense. They do have to replace some of the top players from that side of the ball but the names that return are ready to step into the spotlight and they have some young players that should be very productive for the next few seasons. The ultimate question for Adair is how they replace Cooper McCord in 2026. He was the heart and soul of this team and helped carry them to the gold ball last season. It's not an easy task but the answer to that question will tell us how far the Warriors can go this season. The district is somewhat different this season but the Warriors should go into this year as the favorite to capture another district title. Adair hasn't lost a district game since 2022. If they win another district title, that should set them up to go on a run in November and ultimately December.

The last time that we saw 2029 defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='2124484' first='Brett' last='Pursley'] in person, it was moments after he came up with the game-clinching interception in the end zone to cap off Adair's state championship win. Not a bad way to finish off your freshman season. Pursley now comes into his sophomore season and appears to be ready to take the next step and become a more serious contributor to the success of this defense. As we mentioned earlier in the preview, the Adair defense has the potential to really carry this team early on in the season. Having Pursley returning in the secondary helps that. At the very least, we know that the Adair sophomore can make big plays in big moments.

One of the themes of this preview is how Adair will replace last year's senior class. The upcoming senior class has been a critical part of the program turnaround and looks to keep the Warriors on top. 2027 wide receiver and defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='2240012' first='Britton' last='Kerr'] is one of the top returning seniors and is expected to have an expanded role on the squad this season. Offensively, Kerr will give the Warriors an athletic threat at WR. He's one of the leading returners in that department but his role will be much greater in 2026 because it has to be. Also, don't overlook the impact that he can have on defense. He'll look to cause a lot of havoc coming off the edge of the defensive line.

It seems like Adair is very confident in the 2028 class that is coming through as they have a lot of returning talent from the class on both sides of the ball. Specifically on defense, Adair will be led by a couple juniors this season and it starts with 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2240013' first='Garrison' last='Huffman'] at the linebacker position. Huffman will come into this season as the leading returning tackler from last year's team. Last season, he finished third on the team in tackles with over 80 on the season. The top two graduated and now all eyes will be on Huffman to see if he can take that next step in the middle of this Adair defense. There is a lot to like about his game and how he flies around on the field.

2028 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='2167133' first='Kyler' last='Green'] has some big shoes to fill and that's ironic considering he checks in at 6'7. Green will move into the quarterback role following the graduation of Cooper McCord but it's not a position that he's unfamiliar with coming into 2026. He was mostly used as a tight end and split out at wide receiver but the Warriors would also move him to quarterback, mostly near the goal line. This season, the 2028 product has all the tools to be a breakout star for the Warriors. You could see flashes of his potential last season and people around the Adair program know what he's capable of. But it wouldn't be surprising to see him become more of a household name across the 2A-2 landscape this fall.

2029 tight end and defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='2124494' first='Zack' last='Wilson'] is another sophomore to look out for this season for the Warriors and we're fired up to see what kind of impact he can have on both sides of the ball. We watched Adair in person twice last year and each time, Wilson had a solid showing on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Wilson is going to be a consistent target in the passing game at tight end. Defensively, Wilson ended up being one of Adair's more productive players and specifically in the sack department. If he can elevate his numbers and overall production this season, he might emerge as one of the better two-way players in Class 2A-2 this season and will be a name to watch moving forward.

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - Gravette, AR.
- The Warriors begin their pursuit of a second straight state championship with a home game against Gravette, Arkansas. The Lions are no strangers to playing Oklahoma programs but this will be the first out-of-state opponent for the Warriors in recent memory. Gravette went 10-3 last season and they bring back a lot of their production on both sides of the ball.
Sept. 4th - Inola
- Adair hosts Inola in week one and it will be the third straight year these two teams have met in non-district play. The Longhorns will have a first year head coach this season but some momentum after making it to the 3A quarterfinals a year ago. Inola also pushed Adair last season, with the Warriors winning 34-27 in their closest game of the regular season.
Sept. 11th - AT Locust Grove
- The Warriors wrap up non-district play with their first road game of the season. They'll travel to Locust Grove to face the Pirates in week two. These two teams have met in non-district play for over a decade now and it's been a back and forth series for the most part. However, the Warriors have had the advantage recently, winning the last two, including last year's 59-6 win.
Sept. 25th - KIPP (Tulsa)
- After a week off, Adair will open up district play in week four, at home, against KIPP out of Tulsa. KIPP is a new football program to the OSSAA as this is their first year in the association and only their second year of football altogether. They are a prep school from Tulsa and after a 2025 season playing mostly JV teams, they enter 2A-2 in 2026.
Oct. 2nd - AT Chelsea
- The Warriors will go on the road in week five to square off with Chelsea. These two teams have been district opponents for the last few seasons. The game last season was cancelled and forfeited by Chelsea after a community tragedy. The Warriors will be looking for their 16th consecutive victory in this series when they square off this season.
Oct. 9th - Kansas
- The second half of the regular season kicks off with a home game against Kansas. This is a district series that has been off and on for the last few decades. The Warriors have owned the series against the Comets, winning 14 straight in the series, including last year's 50-2 victory. They'll look for another big win this year.
Oct. 15th - AT Keys
- On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, the Warriors will go on the road to face Keys. These two have been district opponents the last two seasons and the Warriors are 2-0 against the Cougars. But last season ended up being the highest scoring contest of the regular season. The Warriors scored a season-high 64 points but also gave up a season-high 41 points.
Oct. 23rd - Salina
- Adair hosts Salina in week eight and the district championship could be on the line in their final home game of the regular season. This match-up ended up deciding the district title last year, when Adair knocked off the Wildcats 37-22 early in the regular season. This year, they meet in late October and the Warriors will look for their fourth straight win in the series.
Oct. 30th - AT Wyandotte
- One week after hosting Salina, Adair goes back on the road to square off with Wyandotte. This is a program that has been competitive over the last few years but they lost a lot to graduation. The Warriors will be looking for their 13th consecutive win in the series. They dominated last year's meeting, beating Wyandotte 49-6.
Nov. 6th - AT Chouteau
- The regular season comes to a close with another road game in week ten, as Adair will travel to Chouteau. They will square off with the Wildcats for the first time since 2019. These two were district opponents in 2018 and 2019 and haven't met on the gridiron since then. This is another series that has been completely dominated by the Warriors.

NOTABLE

When Adair captured the 2025 state championship, it was a special moment for head coach Brady Bradbury. The fourth year head coach is an Adair alum and was tasked with bringing his alma mater back to the mountain top of Oklahoma high school football. In the season before he took over, the Warriors struggled through a 2-8 season and missed the playoffs. Bradbury and the Warriors struggled out of the gate in his first season, starting the 2023 season with an 0-3 record. But there haven't been struggles after that. Following the 0-3 start in 2023, Adair has a record of 33-2 in the last 35 games. Bradbury has built up this team to resemble some of those teams that he played for a decade ago and teams that dominated 2A football under former head coach Mark Lippe. So it was a bit of a sentimental moment when Adair celebrated their 2025 state title and were handed the gold ball by (now superintendent) Lippe on the field at UCO. But all eyes are going to be on Adair going into 2026. There is no doubt that they had a truly special senior class and in addition to having to replace those guys, that target on their back is bigger than it has been in the last decade.
