The hall of fame head coach Kevin Kelley enters his third season with the rebuilding yellowjackets. In 2025, their offense was rolling, scoring over 50 points four times and avergaing 43 ppg (473 total points scored). That said, their defense is what cost them games last fall, giving up 63.4 ppg (698 total points allowed). That said, another full year in the system should yield major improvements as players fully embrace the aggressive, possession-oriented approach.

The biggest reason for optimism is bringing back multiple D1 prospects including [player_tooltip player_id='1195565' first='Isaiah' last='Stephens'] (North Carolina Commit), [player_tooltip player_id='1415593' first='Bradley' last='Sturdivant'] (Arkansas Commit), and [player_tooltip player_id='1745397' first='Eythan' last='Cowden'] (Arkansas State Commit). You can't forget the rising quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1858209' first='Easton' last='Barksdale'] who tookover halfway through last season, going 209/350 (60%), 3,109 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. A strong wide recevier core in [player_tooltip player_id='1972086' first='Dylan' last='Smith'], [player_tooltip player_id='2115948' first='Hunter' last='Socia'], [player_tooltip player_id='1252919' first='Walker' last='Shields'] and more. The defense will be the true question and are they ready for the challenge.

[player_tooltip player_id='1858209' first='Easton' last='Barksdale'] is going to garner more attention this fall. He possesses a good frame with room to add muscle. He reads pre-snap, can adjust his release point, and gets the ball out quickly. Barksdale displays solid ball placement at all field levels with the touch to layer the football over second-level defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id='1252919' first='Walker' last='Shields'] has D1 potential and recently earned his first D1 offer from Missouri State. Shields lines up everywhere for Sheridan, showcasing his versatility. He's a solid route runner with the mental processing to locate voids against zone and get upfield post catch to move the chains. Shields displays solid body control and hand-eye coordination, adjusting mid-route near the boundary. Add him to your board.

The Yellowjackets are no longer just “rebuilding”—they're reloading with elite talent and elite coaching. If the defense takes the expected step forward, Sheridan has legitimate potential to surprise the 6A landscape and make a legitimate run at the playoffs and beyond. The sting is coming. Watch out for the Yellowjackets in 2026.
