2026 Team Preview: Lovejoy Wildcats

Lovejoy quietly finished with 8 wins in 2025. In steps former McEachern assistant Jabari Wilder, who will look to his defense to maintain the moderate success we've seen from the Wildcats in recent years.   By the numbers...   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>With 8 wins in 2026, Lovejoy could have back-to-back 8+ win seasons for the first time since 2014.</li> </ul>   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Lovejoy has finished with a winning season in 3 of the last 5 years</li> </ul>   Offense    Atabonglefac will play both ways for Lovejoy and start at corner, but is expected to be a vital part of the offense as a senior. He is a soccer athlete with truly impressive foot speed and explosiveness displayed in his routes. He does a good job of tracking the ball over his shoulder, and his long strides prove difficult to match down the field. Atabonglefac projects as a deep threat down the seams.     Beazer is a stout, strong player who will help lead the charge in the run game for Lovejoy this fall. I got eyes on Beazer earlier this summer, where Lovejoy coaches recognized him as a top performer at the Gainesville padded camp. He is a true thumper and proves to be someone you can lean on to grind down the curve of defenses. He has enough pop athletically to make some plays, but his toughness and power at contact are where his niche lies.     Lovejoy is expected to work 2 QBs, with Gibbs recognized by coaches as a "steady presence behind center." Simply put, Lovejoy needs playmaking ability on the field, and that's what Gibbs provides. On top of that, he is praised for his leadership and reliability, which is impressive and not often heard when praising younger QBs.     Bostick is a youngster, but is generating rave reviews from his coaches. In fact, he reminds one coach of former Grayson OL Waltclaire Flynn. From the looks of it, he has developed well to this point and has the proper athleticism and edge needed to play up front as a smaller guy. There is still time to grow, so I will side with the coaches here and agree that the upside is exciting here.    Defense    According to coaches, Butler is the "unquestioned leader of our defense and entire team honestly". Everything goes through him, and while he is nursing an injury over the summer, he is expected to be back and ready to lead the Lovejoy defense when the season comes around. He is a smooth, downhill, physical player who should receive some small school buzz throughout his senior year.     There are some whispers around Oyebade coming out of Lovejoy, and coaches believe they have a blooming national prospect on their hands. He is a raw, but active player who is a natural winner at the point of attack. As he develops and adds more nuance, his game should continue to round off.     Taiwo, committed to UGA, is the obvious prospect on this squad to monitor, and someone who is well covered up to this point. He is a long, cut, lean player who flashes SEC-caliber tools as a pass rusher, plus a frame that supports future growth. He will need some seasoning at the next level, but he has all the tools to be fired up about.     Banks missed most of 2025 with a meniscus tear, but he is kin to NFL players and is the "fastest player on the team" according to coaches. There's not much buzz here, but his coaches are confident he can be a late bloomer.     Osby, committed to Western Kentucky, makes all the checks and calls on the back end for Lovejoy. He is a thinner player who has made some strides physically, but still has some tread on the tires with more development. He is a downhill, physical player who is not afraid to hit. His best ball is ahead of him. Gurley is freshman Tim Tebow. Big, powerful arm. Athletic and can add a ton of value in run game."</li> </ul>   2026 Outlook   In 2025, Lovejoy rattled off 7 consecutive wins to start the season, en route to a year-end record of 8-3. In steps new HC Jabari Wilder, who will look to maintain moderate success over the last decade or so from Lovejoy. Graduating seniors on the offensive side of the ball set the biggest concern here, but coaches are confident they will be able to run the ball with what they have coming back. Defensively, Gideon Taiwo is the tone setter, with senior leaders like [player_tooltip player_id='2253673' first='Kamrynn' last='Butler'] and [player_tooltip player_id='662107' first='Isiah' last='Osby'] mixed in.   Lovejoy will be tested out of the gate against Westlake, but if they can come together, the wins are available on their schedule to kick off the Wilder era with a playoff birth.
