Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

Colleges have done well in mining Iowa's 2027 recruiting class. Twelve different guys have verbally committed to Power 4 programs. Quite a few others have pledged to FBS and FCS schools.

Even with those sizable numbers, a lot of talent from the state for the cycle remains in the board. Here's a closer look at a group of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='1644911' first='Avery' last='Sorensen'], DL/ATH, Clear Creek Amana

Announced offers: Wisconsin Platteville.

The Situation: I was able to check out Sorenson last season when Clear Creek Amana played host to a really good Newton team. I left the field intrigued by his skill set and abilities. Sorensen is quick and agile enough to catch four passes for 47 yards as a tight end. It speaks to the athleticism and agility he brings to the defensive end position, where he would likely line up on the next level. His 6-foot-3 frame has plenty of room to fill out and add strength without the loss of traits that make him a tough matchup for offensive linemen. Sorensen has long arms and a quick first step. He understands how to utilize his hands for an advantage and plays hard through the whistle.

Sorensen is a guy who would fit nicely at quite a few colleges. He's visited Minnesota State Moorhead, Dubuque, Morningside and Wisconsin Platteville this year. Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Western State visited him in Tiffin. Sorensen attended Iowa's big man camp on June 1, and picked up an opportunity to play at Platteville with his performance at a Pioneer camp last week.

[player_tooltip player_id='2161996' first='Jase' last='Bates'], OL/DL, Indianola

Announced offers: Grand View, Dordt.

The Situation: Bates chipped in on defense during the 2025 season but was most impactful at left offensive tackle for Indianola. Bates gets off of the snap quickly and powers through opponents in the run game. Quickness and agility allow him to reach blocks in space and do damage on the move. Bates has a projectable frame capable of filling out and adding strength. He could end up growing into a guard or center, where his athleticism would play up. As it is, the versatility should be attractive to colleges.

Grand View saw enough and offered Bates an opportunity last month. That came after Dordt offered in May. He's a guy that should be receiving more looks along the recruiting trail.

[player_tooltip player_id='2064047' first='Quentin' last='Dalton'], ATH, Bedford

Announced offers: Nebraska Wesleyan

The Situation: Dalton is flying below the radar, perhaps because he competes at the eight-player level. Scouts should proceed with caution when taking that approach, as the division contains good prospects. Dalton is one of those dudes. He helped the Bulldogs reach the second round of the playoffs in 2025, completing almost 67 percent of this throws for 12 touchdowns against just two interceptions. Dalton rushed for 1081 yards (9.7 YPC) and 24 touchdowns. He also delivered 37 solo tackles and picked off three balls. If the numbers weren't enough, his track performance should convince coaches at the next level.

College programs are interested. Nebraska Wesleyan offered an opportunity on Dec. 1. North Dakota State, South Dakota, Drake, Northwest Missouri State, Wayne State and Central have visited him at Bedford this year. He visited South Dakota, Wayne State, Northwest Missouri State, Grand View and Washburn, and camped at Simpson in April.

[player_tooltip player_id='1512553' first='Dillon' last='Lindgren'], C/DT, Lawton-Bronson

Announced offers: Northwestern College, Simpson, Friends University.

The Situation: While he recorded a pair of solo tackles, a half tackle for loss and half of a sack in 2025, Lindgren proved that he was a college prospect with his performance on the offensive line. Colleges looking for a center that can run the show and complete the involved tasks of the position should look Lindgren's way. He brings athleticism, agility and power to there, allowing him to operate effectively in tight quarters or do damage out in space. It's a set of skills and abilities that also would work at defensive tackle, but the upside is greater in the middle of the O-Line.

Simpson saw it and offered an opportunity last week. Northwestern College and Friends University already had done the same. He's received strong interest from Wayne State, Sioux Falls, Morningside, Augustana and Dordt.

[player_tooltip player_id='1937349' first='Deronte' last='Strong'], DL, Xavier

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Strong lives up to his name. He combines that strength with leverage and sound technique to overpower opponents as a defensive lineman. The then-junior played an important in Xavier's run to the Class 4A state championship in November. He delivered four tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Strong proves effective when lining up in the middle of a 4-3 or off the end of a 3-4. That versatility should make him attractive to programs on the next level.

So far, they've been late reacting. He did take part in an Iowa camp on Wednesday and visited Wisconsin Platteville at the end of last month.
