UA Next Camp: 2027 Pass Catching Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>***Use Code “ScottyB30” for 30% off your subscription***</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The UA Next Camp in Chicago was a great opportunity to evaluate some of the top prospects in the Midwest with our focus particularly on Illinois.&nbsp; We were able to see the passing drills along with one on ones between pass catchers and defensive backs.&nbsp; Here I examine what caught our attention from the <strong>Illinois 2027 Pass Catchers</strong> at the camp!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='432197' first='Quentin' last='Burrell'] (Mt. Carmel – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Michigan commit earned his invite to the Under Armour All-American Game with a solid day.&nbsp; Top wide receiver in the state and #3 overall prospect in 2027.&nbsp; Crisp getting in and out his cuts.&nbsp; Great size, strength, and explosiveness.&nbsp; Deep post route over the middle using his size and positioning for the win.&nbsp; Plucks everything so easily.&nbsp; Did well in testing as well checking in at 6'2” 203 pounds with a 4.49 forty time and 4.45 short shuttle.&nbsp; 106.7” broad jump and 31.6” vertical were impressive as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Daniel Sago (Montini – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sago is going to explode on the scene and SOON!&nbsp; The two sport star was at the camp on Sunday giving us a great chance to see him in person after being forced to sit out last year because of transfer.&nbsp; Measured in at 6'5” 177 pounds while running a 4.59 forty yard dash and 4.25 short shuttle.&nbsp; Broad jump was 114.6” and had a vertical of 28.6”.&nbsp; The long levered pass catcher has extremely lengthy strides covering a ton of ground getting vertical.&nbsp; Can also cut pretty well too.&nbsp; Adjusts to different speeds of throws and has a wide catch radius.&nbsp; Tracks it so well down the field.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1274195' first='Damacio' last='Ortegon'] (Montini – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This 5'10” wide receiver is coming off a state title at Montini as a junior.&nbsp; Shifty route runner over the middle out of the slot.&nbsp; Liked the quickness creating separation at the line of scrimmage.&nbsp; Consistently won at the line.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2169242' first='Donovan' last='Evans'] (Montini – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Evans is making the move over to Montini from St. Rita to join a star wide receiver corps.&nbsp; The 6'1” 180 pound wide receiver brings nice athleticism to the table.&nbsp; Adjusted to variety of off target balls in gauntlet.&nbsp; Drives defender downfield for a double move to corner for a grab.&nbsp; Had another quick move off the line getting by the corner for a win and score downfield.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1275281' first='Duran' last='Sims'] (Mt. Carmel – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 5'10” wide receiver from Mt. Carmel is primed for a big year as the #3 guy with Thornton and Burrell for the Caravan.&nbsp; Crisp route runner that gets in and out of cuts with ease.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2104989' first='CJ' last='Willis'] (Belleville East – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Willis is a Prep Redzone favorite who we feel is super underrecruited.&nbsp; Was outstanding in the gauntlet drill running and catching it naturally.&nbsp; His ability to win with quickness on slant routes was outstanding.&nbsp; Shifty in tight spaces juking defender.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114140' first='Lawrence' last='Carr'] (Kenwood – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 5'11” wide out from Kenwood is a smaller and stockier pass catcher.&nbsp; Showcased smooth speed and acceleration with solid hands.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1866226' first='Owen' last='Matela'] (Lyons – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Miami (OH) 6'5” big bodied tight end commit had a nice day.&nbsp; Long strides and tracks the ball well.&nbsp; Best getting up the field vertically in the seam using his size against smaller DBs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2104990' first='Charlie' last='Fowler'] (Loyola – 2027)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Easy to see why Kansas and Boston College are both heavily involved with the Ramblers tight end.&nbsp; Measured in at 6'6” and 224 pounds.&nbsp; Ran a 4.69 forty along with a 4.47 shuttle.&nbsp; He had a 110.2” broad jump and 32.6” vertical.&nbsp; Soft hands and is a natural pass catcher.&nbsp; Glided through the gauntlet.&nbsp; Uses his physicality to create room over the middle on vertical routes.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
