Summer Rankings Preview: Class of ‘29 Newcomers

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The month of June has been a busy one. Especially for prospects across the <em>Sunflower State</em>. One group of players in particular are on a mission to make a name for themselves this year. The group I'm referring to is the upcoming sophomore class. With all the progress these players have made since the previous update, it's time for some new rankings.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When the rankings go live in the coming weeks these are five players folks can expect to see. Each of them have the potential to compete for playing time this fall. Get to know them ahead of the update.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2229180' first='Cornell' last='Dixon'] - Gardner-Edgerton, 6'2”, 275, DL</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's still early in [player_tooltip player_id='2229180' first='Cornell' last='Dixon']'s prep career, but he has the potential of being a dominant force. He showed flashes of this at the freshman level in 2025. Dixon also displayed some versatility, as he's capable of playing the 3 or 5 Technique. Gardner-Edgerton is gearing up to field a stout defensive line during the ‘26 campaign, and Dixon should be a part of that rotation.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2229182' first='Connor' last='Trager'] - Bishop Carroll, 5'10”. 205, ATH</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This next prospect has shown signs of being a gym rat, and is sure to only get stronger as he matures. During the spring, Trager of Bishop Carroll recorded a bench press max of 205 pounds, and a squat max of 295 pounds. By the time summer weights concludes those numbers will likely be crushed. It'll be interesting to see what position he plays this season, as he has previous experience along the offensive and defensive line. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2229183' first='Jacob' last='Becket'] - Manhattan, 6'4”, 195, QB</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There's been some high praise when it comes to Becket of Manhattan. He impressed Manhattan's staff after showing a lot of promise during the ‘25 campaign. Given his play and his 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame, the young signal caller could have the opportunity to see the varsity field as a sophomore. He's sure to make the QB1 battle for Manhattan interesting this summer.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2229184' first='Marcus' last='White'] - Emporia, 6'0”, 225, DL/ATH</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's another young defensive lineman with a bright future. White of Emporia was one of the few prospects in this class to receive some varsity snaps as a freshman. Since then he's been getting after it in the weight room. Just back in April White was squatting 410 pounds with minimal effort. He's already showing he can be a strong force along the defensive line for the Spartans' varsity rotation.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1870146' first='Drake' last='Ohde'] - Blue Valley North, 6'0”, 165, ATH</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Capping off this group is an intriguing prospect with the potential of emerging as one of the best athletes in the class. Ohde of Blue Valley North displayed some impressive playmaking ability at the freshman level in 2025. The ball was in his hands often, as he took snaps at quarterback. Going forward though, Ohde could be used in a variety of ways by the Mustangs' staff. He has the potential of developing into a difference maker for BVN.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
