Sights and Sounds: Bernalillo 7×7 Tourney (Video/Recap, Part 2)

BERNALILLO – The Piedra Vista Panthers took home the championship in the annual Bernalillo 7x7 Tournament, riding strong performances from quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='2104394' first='Reuban' last='Marquez'] and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1606021' first='AJ' last='Cockrell'] to the title on Saturday.

Cibola and Piedra Vista both moved from Class 6A to Class 5A in the NMAA's football realignment in December. Those two teams are now district rivals (5A-1) and they squared off late Saturday morning in the pool play round. Marquez showed pinpoint accuracy on several deep throws.

Later, St. Michael's squared off with rival Robertson. The Cardinals know who their quarterback will be in 2026: 6-foot-5 rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='1155256' first='Nathan' last='Gonzales'], who threw for over 1,500 yards and 13 TD while rushing for close to 500 yards and 8 TD. St. Michael's, though, must choose a new starting QB. Right now, the two top candidates are rising senior Karsen Patten and Stephon Gouzda.

Regardless of who the players are, the Horsemen seem to find a way to win, They carry a 33-game winning streak into the 2026 season. St. Michael's has won three straight Class 3A titles and haven't lost since midway through the 2023 season.

In one of the final matchups of pool play, Taos faced District 4A-1 rival Espanola Valey, who will have a different head coach for the third straight season. Sun Devils rising junior WR [player_tooltip player_id='1715054' first='Cody' last='Trujillo'] is a dynamic athlete. He had multiple receptions in the contest.

Taos won seven games in 2025 and advanced to the Class 4A semifinals. However, the Tigers mist replace their starting quarterback, top four rushers and top two receivers. As a result, the Tigers will have plenty of new faces at the offensive skill positions.

VIDEO 1: Cibola vs. Piedra Vista

https://youtu.be/GcBfdnJH8Sg?si=KM_z5yXfhyDHdvVO

VIDEO 2: St. Michael's vs. Robertson (Part 1)

https://youtu.be/6ngz-82N--Q?si=A2b0tUTbCORJdy0v

VIDEO 3: St. Michael's vs. Robertson (Part 2)

https://youtu.be/Vv0w0zeW_Vg?si=yL781zHE79II3HFE

VIDEO 4: Taos vs. Espanola Valley

https://youtu.be/37g9kSRPFQs?si=KI-hwJoTzmUZzomX

BEST OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Took the Chip in Bernalillo 7v7 tournament!
