The June grind for quarterbacks fine-tuning their game will come to a close next week after wrapping up a busy start to the summer.

For most QBs the off-season is a blur. After football closes most move on to playing other sports, 7v7, working with specialists/trainers, competing at camps-combines as well as continuing to grind through the school's off-season weight training and speedwork.

June in particular is busy as QB's striving to be elite often travel to events all over the nation, but even if you stay in the region there is a significant amount of travel time involved to add to the equation as well.

In this report, we are taking a look at a mixed group of gunslinger quarterbacks from all of the returning classes. All five are impressive talents with a couple coming off big breakout seasons last fall while the others have been slowed by injuries/transfers but are rolling into the 2026 season ready to make up for lost time.

So, without further adieu, let's check these guys out:

[player_tooltip player_id='1579589' first='Griffin' last='Hall'] , 5'10, 175, Salina Central, '27, it has been a busy off-season for this gunslinger after leading his team to the 5A state championship, was selected as an all-state QB and piled up a record-breaking stat line in the process. Once the season ended he did not rest on his laurels and instead teamed up with other driven state champs like @mort46086Joseph from Manhattan and teammate @King785anderson to train with @sharp_spelite and be ready to defend their titles. This spring he played baseball as an infielder while continuing to spend time in the weight room and doing speedwork. Last fall he put together one of the best seasons in the state as a dual-threat QB with a strong, accurate arm who is equally efficient throwing out of the pocket or on the move. He is also a dangerous runner who is quick and elusive with great burst running to daylight. Get your popcorn handy, he is going to put on another show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1626551' first='Carter' last='Wagner'] , 6'4, 205, QB/DB, Olathe NW, '28, up first for the QB's getting ready for their junior season is this baller QB who is motivated more than most after bouncing back from a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder playing baseball that cost him the 2025 season. Once he was cleared late last year he got back into the grind, playing hoops and baseball while continuing to fine-tune his skills working with quarterback coach @coachcollinscj. He has been applying this focus on footwork, ball placement and timing by getting in a lot of throwing with his receivers. With prototype size and athleticism he is a dual threat who can carve up defenses in any number of ways. As a passer he has tight mechanics and footwork throwing from the pocket and also throws an accurate ball on the move either way. This guy has all the tools, the size and the skills to be elite and is getting ready to deliver on that promise with a big comeback season this fall.

Ethan O'Hara, 6'1, 195, QB, Blue Valley North, '28, up next for the juniors is a young gun QB flying under the radar somewhat who recently transferred to BVN. He didn't waste anytime this off-season showing his new coaches that he is ready to lead the team and has been training hard with Mikendric Harper on speedwork and quickness and with QB Coach Hoover and Spin It Academy three times a week. He has also been busy on the camp circuit, with top 3 finishes in both jumps and the pro agility at the Varsity Combine in May and then really got busy in June showcasing his game in camps at KU, Pitt State, Washburn, K-State and Missouri State. He is also a grinder watching and studying film and has been working hard on continuing to improve cognitive skills and processing speed. With a versatile arm, he can throw the quick, accurate darts in the short game with great ball placement and throws an accurate deep ball, routinely hitting receivers in stride. This guy is ready to roll this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1694269' first='Kipton' last='Kruger'] , 5'11, 190, QB, Silver Lake, '29, first up for the guys coming off their initial varsity season is a rising-star gunslinger who put together one of the best freshman seasons in the state last fall when he completed 178 of 252 passes for 2,118 yards, an impressive 71% completion rate and rifled 16 touchdown passes. Once the season was over this 3-sport athlete went right into basketball and then this spring helped the baseball team to a state runner-up finish as a shortstop and pitcher. He has also continued to train for football on the side and this summer will be throwing with his receivers. He has a mature game as a QB already, with a strong arm, good pocket presence and pulls the trigger on timing passes. He is one of the rare freshman QB's to throw for 2,000+ yards as well as complete over 70% of his passes. Note: his great uncle is the legendary Lon Kruger, a long-time Sunflower State coach/athlete.

[player_tooltip player_id='2229201' first='Peyton' last='Mason'], 6'1, 180, QB/LB, Wichita NW, '29, and last but certainly not least is another young gun QB coming off his first year of varsity football that was cut short when he injured his knee in the fifth game of the season. Once he was cleared to get back into training mode, he has been busy in the weight room, working on strength, speed, and explosiveness, and has set new PRs in all the key lifts. His camp schedule has been busy as well, showcasing his high-octane game recently at KU, K-State and Iowa State. He is also working on position-specific linebacker training and preparing to go both ways if needed. On the other side of the ball he is a talented dual-threat QB who can slice and dice defenses through the air or when extending plays with his speed and quickness. His work is already paying dividends as he has put on 10 pounds while still getting faster. With big bro QB @jaylenmason off to KU, it is now his time to shine this fall.
