Camp season continues to build momentum as we enter mid-June, with K-State wrapping up another successful camp this past weekend and KU gearing up for their camp this Wednesday.

And, as a side note, I will be in Lawrence Wednesday for the KU event - thanks again to Kevin Flaherty @KFlahertyKU for greasing the skids to get me in.

In this report we are taking a look at five versatile backs, leading with a junior followed by four seniors, on both sides of the ball who have been to a variety of camps already, and the off-season work is showing obvious improvements in speed, power and explosiveness.

So, without further adieu, let's check these guys out:

[player_tooltip player_id='1639961' first='Michael' last='Beck'], 5'11, 175, DB/ATH, Spring Hill, '28, he is another baller on a Bronco team that is looking loaded for this fall. An athletic d-back/athlete, he is coming off a good sophomore season with 60 tackles and played suffocating pass defense as a safety. This off-season he has continued to impress, with a standout performance at Lindenwood when he ran a 4.6 forty, went 36" in the vertical, 10'2" in the broad jump, and had 3 interceptions in six reps in camp 1-on-1 coverage drills. He also performed well at William Jewell earlier in the month and will be heading to Pitt State on 6/25 and then the SBU camp in July. He has been training hard with teammate @maysendodson this spring/summer, and is looking ready to take it to another level this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1586376' first='Izaac' last='Popp'] , 5'9, 200, RB/LB, Eisenhower, '27, up next is a varsatile baller who has had a strong off-season working his way through the camp gauntlet and has been generating interest as a running back/linebacker with next-level speed and quickness. Last fall he averaged just under 10 yards per carry as a RB and on the other side of the ball had 32 tackles, six fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and also intercepted a pass and ran it back for a TD. He has been training with @sharp_spelite since early in the year and has had good showings at a number of early camps. In April he had one of the fastest 40 times at the McPherson camp, was solid at the Wichita Showcase and earlier in June showed well at the Baker Camp. This guy is locked in and loaded for a breakout season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1593083' first='Gus' last='Ketteler'] , 6'1, 195, RB/DB, Shawnee Mission East, '27, up next for the senior backs is a guy coming off a junior year marred by injury but was still able to pick up 300+ rushing yards and averaged six yards a carry. With 4.55 speed, a 36" vertical and 10'1" broad jump he brings great burst and explosiveness to the position. He is not just a speed back, catching well out of the backfield and is a physical lead blocker. He is also excited about getting a shot at playing safety on the other side of the ball. He just wrapped up track running the sprints, and recently at Lindenwood made the RB All-Combine team and had the third-best broad jump. This guy is a diamond in the rough who has not gotten the attention deserved due to untimely injuries, but he is getting ready to go off this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1894717' first='Garrett' last='Leblanc'] , 6'2, 185, DB/WR, Emporia, '27, next up is a baller who caught my eye last year as a versatile athlete who excels in all three phases of the game. He was particularly impressive as a free safety who plays lock-down coverage but brings the physicality reacting to the run. On the other side of the ball he can play as a WR, in the slot or on the wing, using his 4.5 speed to create early separation, execute precise routes and burn teams with the deep ball. He is also active on most of the special teams as both a dangerous return man and headhunter covering kicks and punts. With his length, finishing speed and explosiveness he can be projected to play any number of positions at the next level. With a good off-season underway this guy is going to bust out for a big season in 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='415448' first='Kayden' last='Augustus'] , 5'11, 185, RB/LB, Blue Valley North, '27, and last, but certainly not least, we have a versatile, two-way baller who has had two good seasons on both sides of the ball which has prepared him well for a big-time senior season. As a sophomore he played mostly defense and then last fall moved to running back, where he generated 850+ all-purpose yards and scored six TDs for the year. He has developed into a versatile back who besides running and catching can also hammer lead blocks coming out of the backfield. This off-season has been busy and his work is paying off as he recently made the All-Combine team for RBs at the Lindenwood Camp and just got back from showcasing his game at the Pitt State camp last week. This guy has just been getting warmed up and will be en fuego this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys dominate this fall - you will not be disappointed. Also, DM me via X if you run across any players flying under the radar.

And, as usual…
