Five 2030 RB Prospects to Know in Tennessee

With each new offseason comes a new wave of talent at the high school level with the arrival of a potential-filled rising freshman group.   As the state keeps investing more and more into youth development, the young talent in the state of Tennessee has become exponentially better at an earlier stage as the state began to see with the impact that 2029 class immediately made last season.   In a strong group of rising freshman quarterbacks, these five 2030 prospects will be players to know as they look to start within the next two seasons.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2030 RB [player_tooltip player_id='1592012' first='David' last='Knowles III'] — Baylor School</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1592012' first='David' last='Knowles III'] is a young running back prospect with great size, power and movement skills.   At 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, he has the frame to make an immediate impact at the high school level. With the large frame, he runs with violence, whether as a tailback or linebacker.   While he is a violent runner, he combines that with good hips that allow to make a strong first cut to make the initial defender miss and work into the open field.   While he can stand to get more creative to elude tacklers, once he finds a crease, he can explode downhill. This is evident on defense as well, where he played a strong linebacker.   He figures to be a prolific one-cut back in the long-term with the ability to lead the offense at his high school.   EXPECTED ROLE IN 2026: He will sit behind some standout 2027 tailbacks at Baylor before having the opportunity to take over the workload as a sophomore.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2030 RB [player_tooltip player_id='1307126' first='K.J.' last='Baker'] — Brentwood Academy</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1307126' first='K.J.' last='Baker'] is a talented running back prospect with good size, fluid hips and a well-rounded skillset.   He has a well-built frame already and that allowed him to make an impact on both sides of the ball. It also allows him to work in between the tackles, where he does not shy away from contact.   He has the ability to get skinny in the hole, and if he finds a crease in the defense, it is hard to bring him down. He has the size to break tackles, the hips to make any cut and the athleticism to get the edge on the defender.   He has promising vision and the patience to allow those rushing lanes to develop. With his vision and cutting ability, he is a home-run threat at any given time.   He is a versatile prospect and that allows him to make an impact in the screen game as a receiver. He also played a productive safety for his team.   EXPECTED ROLE IN 2026: He will be the primary backup to a veteran starter before taking over the backfield in the 2027 season.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2030 RB/WR [player_tooltip player_id='1307084' first='Ace' last='Eschenburg'] — Lipscomb Academy</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1307084' first='Ace' last='Eschenburg'] is a versatile playmaker with a compact frame, strong contact balance and natural athleticism.   While he is a tad undersized, he has a strong, well-built frame that allows him to gain tough yards, both between the tackles and after contact.   He has the athleticism, versatility and ball skills to make plays in a variety of ways, producing at both tailback, receiver and defensive back.   He projects best as a tailback that can win between the tackles and the athleticism to be utilized all over the offensive formation, including as a receiver.   EXPECTED ROLE IN 2026: He will compete for the top backup role behind a senior this season before having an opportunity to start as a sophomore.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2030 RB [player_tooltip player_id='2179184' first='Maverick' last='Sharp'] — Knoxville Halls High School</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='2179184' first='Maverick' last='Sharp'] is a well-built young tailback prospect that has the potential to be a promising one-cut rusher at the high school level.   He holds a strong frame, standing at a well-built 5-foot-11, making him tough to bring down both in between the tackles or at the second level.   He has a strong jump-cut, which he utilizes often to get past defenders in both crowded situations and working into the open field.   With his size and cutting ability, he can be utilized effectively in the red zone and could be a scoring machine with proper development. While being bigger and stronger with a strong cutting ability, he does not rely on just physical tools as he shows flashes of identifying cut back lanes to generate an explosive rush with.   EXPECTED ROLE IN 2026: He will be one of the top tailbacks on the team with the opportunity to start as a freshman.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2030 RB/WR [player_tooltip player_id='1594744' first='Alyjah' last='Russell'] — Blackman High School</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1594744' first='Alyjah' last='Russell'] is a tailback prospect with a strong frame, natural athleticism and a versatile skillset.   His strong build at 5-foot-11 helps him run effectively between the tackles and as he continues to lower his pad level, he will be a tough tackle around the line of scrimmage.   He also has the athleticism and build-up speed to hit explosive plays in the ground game when kicking the runs outside.   He has the versatility to affect the game in a variety of ways and can produce in the intermediate as a receiver, an impressive ability for a player that already holds a power back frame.   EXPECTED ROLE IN 2026: He will continue to develop another year and have a strong opportunity to play a variety of roles as a sophomore.
