Faulkner University (NAIA) in Montgomery, AL, hosted its second prospect camp on Saturday morning at Billy D. Hillyer Stadium. It was a talented group of prospects competing to learn and potentially earn an offer from the homestanding Eagles. Here were the DL standouts from Saturday's camp!

2027 Opelika DL Ericson Thomas was one of the first defensive linemen who caught my attention on Saturday. Thomas put together a dominant performance throughout the camp, consistently winning reps with a combination of explosiveness, leverage, and technique. His first step created immediate problems for offensive linemen, and he paired that burst with a developed pass-rush arsenal that was more polished than you typically see from an interior defender. Thomas also played with good pad level throughout the day, allowing him to maximize his power. When I finished evaluating the defensive line group, I thought Thomas had put together the strongest overall performance of any defensive lineman in attendance.

2027 Thompson DL [player_tooltip player_id='2132017' first='Damon' last='Willis'] brought an intriguing blend of length and athleticism to the Faulkner University prospect camp. Willis has a frame that fits naturally on the edge at 6'2 230, and moved well throughout the day. What stood out most was the way he used his hands to avoid getting tied up with blockers, consistently working to keep himself clean through contact. Willis also showed good burst off the line of scrimmage and played with an active motor through the whistle. His athletic traits were evident throughout the camp, and Willis looks like a player who offers plenty of potential as a DE or EDGE prospect at the next level.

Natural leverage was one of the first things that stood out about 2027 Fayette Ware (TN) DL Elon Weathers. Despite not being the tallest defensive lineman in attendance, Weathers consistently played underneath offensive linemen and made it difficult for them to get comfortable through contact. His first step was another strength, as he fired off the ball, forcing blockers to react quickly. Weathers has inside/outside versatility along the defensive front. He also displayed good bend throughout the day, staying low and maintaining his leverage advantage.

2027 Chipley (FL) DL Bryce Jones was a tough matchup in space during 1-on-1s and required offensive linemen to move their feet. Jones has an athletic 6'2 245 frame, but what caught my attention was how comfortable he looked working in space. Several times throughout the day, offensive linemen struggled to stay balanced against his quickness and sudden change of direction. Jones showed good bend for a player his size and worked around contact without getting stuck on blocks. His short-area burst was noticeable, and it consistently forced blockers to react to him.

Offensive linemen had a hard time getting comfortable against 2027 Buckhorn EDGE Jadon Ervin because of how sudden and twitchy he was throughout the day. Ervin fired off the ball with good burst and routinely forced blockers to react to his movement. One move that worked well for him was his jab step, as he repeatedly got linemen leaning one direction before quickly cutting back the other way. His change of direction ability was impressive, and Ervin looked comfortable redirecting in the middle of a rush. He may be on the smaller side right now, but the athleticism jumps out immediately. Between the twitch, agility, and ability to win in space, Ervin showed traits that make him worth following over the next two years.
