Louisiana recruiting round-up: Recapping June DL/LB commitments

Louisiana student-athletes have been announcing college commitments with fast-and-furious frequency the past couple weeks as the summer barrels toward its midway mark.   More than three dozen more prospects have shared their college plans since our previous recruiting round-ups earlier this month.   Here's a look at a half a dozen players in the defensive front seven now locked in with Division-I programs.   [player_tooltip player_id='1616374' first='Kyle' last='Horde'] — 6-2, 220 LB/RB — Westminster —> Texas State   One of the major stockrisers of this past junior season for the 2027 class and the subsequent offseason joined a strong run of Louisiana recruiting wins for Texas State this summer. Horde was one of the state's more productive linebackers and running backs this year with 106 carries for 1,168 yards and 16 touchdowns and 116 tackles, including 55 solo stops and 14 for loss and picked up a slew of offers that included Houston, Oklahoma State, Tulane, Memphis and others. But ultimately the Bobcats won out.   [player_tooltip player_id='2228461' first='Jairius' last='Jones'] — 6-3, 205 EDGE — Plaquemine —> South Alabama   South Alabama is another program that has been on a recruiting heater pulling promising prospects out of The Boot this summer, and among the Jaguars' successes in that regard is the long, athletic edge rusher from Plaquemine. Jones came on strong late his junior season and has emerged as a notable sleeper prospect in the class. South Alabama became one of the first programs to make a move in May and needed just over a month to ultimately land his pledge.   Jeremiah Jones — 6-4, 255 DL — Minden —> Tulsa   The versatile defensive lineman, who racked up 50 tackles and 10 sacks this fall, exploded on the recruiting trail throughout this offseason with Tulsa among the first offers to arrive in February. The Golden Hurricanes continued to prioritize him and out-battle a long list of other FBS programs from all over the region to earn his commitment.   [player_tooltip player_id='955469' first='Nigel' last='Marshall'] — 6-0, 275 DL — Edna Karr —> Lamar   The "Animal" up front is one of the experienced leaders returning for the perennial power Cougars following their graduation of a loaded 2026 class. Edna Karr's defense as a whole and defensive line specifically have been full of headline-grabbing, college-bound talent the past few years, and the stout, strong Marshall managed to battle his way into a starting role where he excelled in his role and provided his share of high-impact plays including some in particularly timely, short-yardage moments in high-profile matchups. Lamar landed his commitment this month in what should be a great fit.   [player_tooltip player_id='2228454' first='Jacques' last='Robichaux III'] — 6-4, 230 EDGE — St. Augustine —> Southern Miss   The Purple Knights' disruptive edge rusher saw his offer list take off this offseason following a breakout junior campaign with 9.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and some effective plays getting his hands into passing lanes for deflections and a highlight-reel pick-six. But even with notable in-state contenders such as Tulane and Louisiana (Lafayette) and Power-Four suitors such as Oregon State in the mix, South Miss managed to earn Tre's commitment this month.   Josh Wilson — 6-3, 215 EDGE — Lafayette Christian —> South Alabama   Another nice South Alabama commitment class addition, Wilson emerged this year as a long, speedy edge rusher and versatile defensive playmaker in his Knights' defensive front seven. Lamar, South Alabama, McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin were among the programs that offered the multisport standout, also a key member of LCA's track and basketball teams. And the Jaguars landed his pledge in late June.
