After falling short in the third round of the playoffs to Powdersville and finishing with a 10-2 record in 2025, expectations are as high as they've ever been for the Mountain View Prep Stars heading into 2026, and both quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1654910' first='Makorean' last='Anderson-Wallington'] (pictured) and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='2106792' first='Jamar' last='Brown'] are embracing their leadership roles.

“It takes a lot of the weight off my shoulders. I have a lot of weapons all over the field. I'm just ready to go out to compete,” Anderson told us at last week's Prep Redzone Media Day at Fountain Inn.

“It just shows I have to step up as a leader and help them so we can all win as a team and win a state championship,” Brown said.

The Stars have nine starters back from an offense that averaged 45 points a game, starting up front that will be mostly senior led with [player_tooltip player_id='1271261' first='Brayden' last='Everette'] along with Zach Watson and Daniel Vinson all back. The Stars are high on the potential of running back [player_tooltip player_id='865974' first='Jemo' last='Stinson'] who played varsity football due to some injuries as a freshman. Stars head coach Grey Ramsey told us he's a true running back. Whether it's his size, mobility and catching the ball out of the backfield. He's the third back in a room that includes [player_tooltip player_id='1521092' first='Camren' last='Martin'] and they will all have the opportunity to solidify themselves as RB1 when preseason camp begins in late July.

The Stars have a lot of young talent at receiver and [player_tooltip player_id='1938780' first='Caden' last='Hunter'] appears to be the next guy in line to get his opportunity to shine. He had 11 receptions for 188 yards and three touchdowns in 2025. Senior Jacoby Kelly is a guy that could work their way into the rotation in a loaded receiver room for the Stars in 2026.

On defense, Stanley Hunter is the new defensive coordinator for the Stars, who was an All-American at Byrnes. [player_tooltip player_id='1819157' first='Lawson' last='Burrell'] will anchor things up front on the defensive line as a senior, an area Ramsey believes will be the strength of the unit. [player_tooltip player_id='1664582' first='Elijah' last='Grimes'] is anticipated to get the start at linebacker and will also flip over and compete at running back on offense. Caleb Brisco is the tentative starter at strong safety while Kagan Robertson and Danny McPherson are expected to anchor the corner position.

As the 2026 season opener against Ambassador Christian School approaches on August 21, Stars head coach Grey Ramsey isn't shying away from the expectations heading into year three of the program in the Upstate.

“When we go back and evaluate our program, we're 22-3 in two years, one of the winningest programs in our area and for a lot of people, that would be satisfactory. And we are. We're proud of what we've been able to accomplish but we want to try to take that next step," Ramsey said. "And the wins and losses when you get into third round games, fourth round games and ultimately, if you're lucky enough to make it to a state championship, it's not a talent thing, it's the details behind the scenes and who you are on and off the field. If you want to be great under the lights at 7:30, you've got to be great during the day. So we talk about those games (that we lost), I think it's important to evaluate your program, look at where your shortcomings are and how we can get better. We lost that game (against Powdersville) because it was details. It was the small things. We have a talented group. I'm not afraid to say it. We've got a talented enough group that we can win a state championship. It doesn't mean it will happen but we want to talk about those things and we want our kids to understand that they were created to be great and they're created to be elite at what they do. We're excited for this year, (there's) obviously a lot of motivation, we want to try to get back to that opportunity. Anytime you get that opportunity, we want to try to make sure we do a better job this time."

STARS SET TO SHINE

[player_tooltip player_id='1654910' first='Makorean' last='Anderson-Wallington'] QB, 2027 – The leader of the Stars offense returns for his senior season after throwing for 3015 yards and 35 touchdowns. He was also a threat on the ground in 2025 with 23 touchdowns in the air, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities. Teams will have their work cut out for them when trying to defend him. Ramsey mentioned that with the growth in the running back room, it will take some pressure off him in the quarterback run game. Anderson currently has offers from Lenoir Rhyne and North Greenville.

[player_tooltip player_id='1809282' first='Savion' last='Booker'] WR, 2027 – Booker was a consistent threat on the outside at receiver last year, and he excelled in running quick routes to the middle of the field or finding a way to get open deep behind coverage. He looks to build on a solid junior season where he recorded 26 receptions for 507 yards and six touchdowns. Ramsey said he'll play at corner as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2106792' first='Jamar' last='Brown'] LB, 2029 – The All-Region and leading tackler from 2025 as a freshman told us last week that the defense has been working on getting better at stopping the run, something that they allowed too much for their liking last year. Brown splashed on the scene recording 28 total tackles and four tackles for a loss in 2025. Ramsey believes that colleges will have high interest in him over the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2163577' first='Javion' last='Dawkins'] DL, 2027 – Ramsey says that Dawkins is a true old school nose tackle. He's a big guy who continues to get into better shape and has become the defensive captain. He had 21 tackles with three tackles for a loss, and we expect his production will increase heading into 2026.

FILM REVIEW

[player_tooltip player_id='1672912' first='Chase' last='Richards'] WR, 2027 – Richards has impressive size at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds and can line up flexed as an inside receiver and make the contested jump ball catches. He also showed an ability during the year to be effective in the screen game and slip behind coverage to get up field and quickly get yardage. He finished with 19 receptions for 436 yards and four touchdowns in 2025.

UP-AND-COMING POTENTIAL

[player_tooltip player_id='1583640' first='Aiden' last='Bodison'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1583641' first='Ashton' last='Bodison'] WR, 2029 – These are two freshmen that will be entering the program in 2026 that Ramsey is excited about their potential over the next few years.

Lewis created all sorts of problems for opposing offensive linemen in 2025, whether it was chasing down a runner with a shoestring tackle or stringing out a run in the backfield on a toss play, he was active. He finished 2025 with 20 tackles and four tackles for a loss.
