RICHBURG | Lewisville has a good nucleus of talent returning, along with some young talent that will have a chance in 2026. They'll get fully up to speed when they get several players back from spring sports this summer. Lions coach Trent Usher is excited about what his team brings to the table in 2026, and wants them to continue to make strides as the spring progresses and the summer grind begins.

“Just keep competing. Get better every day. Especially the young guys, value each rep you get and take the summer day-by-day and just get better,” Usher told Prep Redzone SC after practice on Wednesday.

Matthew Cousar (pictured above) returns for his senior season as the Lions' starting quarterback. He saw time on-and-off at the position in 2025, but we'll have the reins fully in 2026. He can sling it around and get it to his receivers and has good size on him. He can also make plays with his feet in the quarterback run game.

One of the surprises for Usher during the spring has been the play of the offensive line. We watched them during practice and saw them open up run lanes. The Lions will be led by [player_tooltip player_id='1822771' first='Aidan' last='Alexander'] and Marquis Hammond.

Cedric Spencer caught our eye at running back at practice on Wednesday with his ability to catch it out of the backfield. He ran hard throughout the session and can get yards. He came on strong last year during the playoffs, particularly in their third round playoff game against CA Johnson. TJ Boulware is a sure pass catcher that Usher is expecting big things out of. He had a big catch for a touchdown during the team period. He was a freshman last year who didn't see the field much, but he has great hands and can go up and make the competitive catches.

Ri'Darius Harris is a guy at receiver that Usher is expecting big things out of heading into his junior year. He didn't see a ton of time as a sophomore, but we expect that to change in 2026. He runs his routes fully and can get up field. He'll flip over on defense and is good in run support.

Denzel Cassels will be a sophomore at the safety position in 2026, and had an excellent pass breakup during the competitive team period. Darrell Guy returns up front on the defensive line after having a productive 2025 season, where he had 45 tackles as a sophomore. There was one play where he fought off the block and chased down Cousar on a designed quarterback run. Keep an eye on Isaiah Cousar in the secondary – he had a nice pass breakup during 7-on-7 and nearly had an interception later.
