Very good anticipation and accuracy; can make the touch pass, drop it in the bucket over the MOF. Makes tough throws with defenders in his face. Comes to a balance; good instincts and ball flow. Squares up at the point of contact during the tag drill. Gets downhill quickly with above-average range. Tape shows he can be a hard hitter with good closing speed and instincts. Flashes solid ball skills on interceptions, adjust low to dig passes out of the dirt for interceptions, and is a good lateral mover. Fast and speedy. Really like his leaping ability and adjustment back to the ball. Goes up and wins contested catches and has some juice downfield after the catch. Quick in/out of his break, smooth route runner who can create separation and work on his own as a route runner. Gets full extension on the ball. Tall and athletic wide receiver for Warren Central was a matchup problem all day. Big, strong and thickly built, Gates has good leaping ability, wins contested catches and high points the ball. During the tag drill he was shifty and flashes ability to make defenders miss, eludes contact and keeps moving forward for positive yards.
