Even with a change in matchup, Destrehan remained the scene for one of Louisiana's top spring scrimmages.

The perennial contender Wildcats hosted Division-II Select runner-up Archbishop Shaw this past week, a shift from recent years' showdowns with Division-I Select champion Edna Karr.

Both Destrehan and the Eagles looked like programs to watch this fall once again, including each featuring future Division-I players, in a competitive scrimmage to wrap up the school year.

Here's a look at eight of the eye-catchers from the matchup.

[player_tooltip player_id='934561' first='Rontrae' last='Carter'] — 6-0, 190 DB — Archbishop Shaw (2027)

The star safety is a returning captain preparing to cap a decorated career with his fifth season in the Eagles' lineup, and he was among the tone-setters of a fast and physical scrimmage overall as he flew around the field, getting sideline to sideline, tracking down ball-carriers and arriving with force.

[player_tooltip player_id='1402701' first='Malachi' last='Dabney'] — 5-9, 185 RB — Destrehan (2027)

The Wildcats' veteran bellcow in the backfield looked the part of his returning all-state self with some hard-nosed running through traffic and through contact and a few carries he was able to bust for bigger runs. Dabney has been one of Louisiana's most productive running backs the past two years and showed flashes of why he expects his biggest season yet as a senior.

Ronnie Miller — 6-3, 215 EDGE/LB — Archbishop Shaw (2027)

The rising senior, working at defensive end, quickly became the under-the-radar prospect who had college coaches and media on hand asking, "Who's that?" Miller looked the part in terms of checking measurables boxes and was quick, tenacious and hard-hitting bringing pressure off the edge.

DeJuan Rivera — 6-2, 170 DB — Archbishop Shaw (2027)

Carter's fellow safety has developed into one of Louisiana's notable stock-rising prospects in the 2027 class this offseason with several offers coming into play, and it's not difficult to see why. Rivera has enjoyed a notable growth spurt during the past year and is a long, rangy athlete on the back end of the defense who is, like his aforementioned teammates, more than happy to get downhill and enforce some physicality.

Anthony Condoll — 5-9, 150 QB — Archbishop Shaw (2029)

The Eagles' returning starting quarterback, [player_tooltip player_id='1782659' first='Allen' last='Shaw III'], was out Wednesday working back from a basketball injury, but the sophomore passer leading the offense in his place had a solid showing that should make the position an interesting storyline to watch this season. Shaw is a talented defensive back and all-around athlete who could be a weapon elsewhere on offense if Condoll is up to the task of running the show. He looked good doing so in the spring scrimmage with a strong arm and good mobility.

Nasir Parker — 6-4, 190 WR — Archbishop Shaw (2028)

The younger brother of Jasper, the star running back on the Eagles' title team two years ago, was a go-to target for Condoll with his tall, long frame and ball skills both of which particularly showed on a focused, balanced catch through contact of a jump-ball deep down the middle of the field. Parker makes up half of the "twin towers," as Carter calls them, with 2029 prospect Baylon Jackson, who rested Wednesday out of precaution for a slight spring injury. Both have started to gain notable steam on the recruiting trail.

[player_tooltip player_id='1530266' first='Aushai' last='Smith'] — 6-0, 175 QB — Destrehan (2028)

The heir to the helm of the Wildcats' offensive helm was solid in the spring rehearsal. Smith brings some athleticism to the position that makes defenses have to respect his threat as a runner, and he showed the arm and the confidence to push the ball downfield to a variety of receivers and the decision-making to check down underneath and limit costly mistakes.

Jakyrin Sanchez — 6-2, 175 DB — Destrehan (2027)

The Wildcats pack some punch defensively as well, including in the secondary specifically. Sanchez is a long, physical cornerback who did well keeping plays in front of him and then quickly wrapping up for tackles, including he and 2028 corner [player_tooltip player_id='1614825' first='Randy' last='Morgan'] both providing some hard-hitting highlights along the way.

Even with a change in matchup, Destrehan remained the scene for one of Louisiana's top spring scrimmages.
