2026 X Film Study 7

The X Film Study series is back for its seventh edition, continuing to spotlight some of the most intriguing young talent across Oregon high school football. This week's group features explosive playmakers, technically sound offensive linemen, and a young quarterback with plenty of upside waiting for his opportunity. One of the best parts of evaluating underclassmen is identifying traits before the breakout fully happens, and several players in this edition fit that category. Whether it's versatility, athleticism, or polish beyond their years, this group brings a lot of exciting long-term potential. The post on my X profile is above.     Mollerstrom is a dynamic offensive weapon who creates problems for defenses whenever he has the ball. He lines up at both receiver and running back, showcasing versatility and the ability to impact the game in multiple ways. His speed stands out immediately on film, as he can flip the field quickly and turn short touches into explosive plays. He also shows good instincts in space and understands how to maximize angles after the catch. Mollerstrom projects as an exciting playmaker with big-play ability every time he touches the football.      Truong is an extremely athletic offensive lineman whose movement skills immediately stand out on film. He plays with great leverage and physicality, allowing him to compete effectively despite being undersized. His ability to work in space and make second-level blocks adds major value to the run game. Technically, he is very polished for a high school lineman and consistently plays with strong fundamentals. While size may impact his recruiting profile, his tape shows a player who can flat-out play football.      Smith is a smooth-moving receiver with a strong combination of size, body control, and reliable hands. At 6'1”, he provides a large target and consistently plays under control while making difficult catches look routine. His versatility also stands out, as he earned all-conference recognition on both sides of the ball. He moves fluidly enough to project as either a receiver or a defensive back long term. Smith is a very consistent young prospect whose upside continues to rise.      Burton is an intriguing young quarterback prospect who already flashes impressive arm talent and composure in the pocket. Even at the JV level, he showed the ability to sit back comfortably and deliver throws all over the field. His arm strength stands out, particularly on deeper throws where he can push the ball with ease. He also shows promising mechanics and a calm presence while operating within the offense. As he earns varsity reps in the future, Burton has the tools to become one of the more interesting quarterbacks in the 2028 class.      Wheat is a polished young receiver who wins with quickness, route running, and consistency. His release off the line stands out, using his shiftiness to create separation early in routes. He catches the ball naturally and shows the ability to make plays both over the top and working the middle of the field. Despite a lighter frame, he competes confidently and understands how to use space to his advantage. Wheat projects as a productive receiver with a well-rounded skill set and strong developmental upside.
