Pinckneyville’s McConnell Two Way Star Talks Recruitment

Pinckneyville 2027 Athlete Tyler McConnell Tyler McConnell 6'4" | 195 lbs | ATH Pinckneyville | 2027 State IL is one of the best prospects in the 618!  This 6'6” 200 pound rising senior is a true athlete!  Legit prospect at both tight end and EDGE rusher.  Also a highly ranked hooper as well.  He is a mismatch as a flex tight end.  High points the ball in the air.  Snatches it out of the air with his hands on short routes.  Downfield threat that adjusts to ball and wins jump ball situations.  Love what he brings as a redzone threat!  Willing blocker.  On the edge he is shot out of a cannon getting to the QB.  Definitely has pass rush ability with his speed and burst.  Blows up running backs trying to block him!

We saw the Pinckneyville standout recently at the Illinois High School Spring Showcase at Collinsville where he had the attention of a lot of coaches.

“Camp was great.  It was very competitive.  I am glad I got to get looks in front of all these coaches.”

Being a standout on both sides of the ball what are schools recruiting him as?

“It kind of a mix of both.  When I talk to Illinois State they don't really know which position for sure.  With SIU they like me as a tight end.  I have other schools that like me as an outside linebacker.  It is a mix of both.  If I had to prefer one it where I play the most.”

McConnell broke down his recruitment and then went into detail about his two visits to the programs that have offered him.

“Two offers are Illinois State and Southern Illinois.  I will be back on campus to both of them in June.  I know Indiana State has been in contact a little and Western Illinois.”

“I really like their facilities.  They have a really nice weight room and facilities along with a great field.  As you know I have a former teammate there.”

Illinois State

“Illinois State visit was great.  They had nice facilities. While there I got to see their sort of new practice field which is indoor they said they had got it about three years ago so it's still fairly new. They had said it helped with their deep playoffs run for sure with it being colder outside they could practice in there and also helped them with games for when they played in stadiums they could get use to the noise by practicing that week indoors. The coaches were great as well they seemed very interested and had a great conversation with their head coach Coach Spack. As well as their defensive coach coach Stewart.
