Newcomer Reveal for Class of ‘28 May Update

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here's some exciting news to start the final week of April. The plan for the beginning of May will be to have the latest rankings update for the Class of ‘28 go live. In this next update folks can expect to see over 25 new players. This report takes an early look at five of the future newcomers. Be sure to keep track of these prospects next week.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2070811' first='Colten' last='Walters'] - Olathe South, 6'4”, 190, Edge</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Walters is a promising pass rusher that's looking to build on what was a solid sophomore campaign in 2025. During the ‘25 season Walters recorded 54 total tackles, five TFL's, and forced multiple fumbles. Last season he displayed an extremely high motor and quickness off the edge. He ran the line well to prevent cut backs, and rarely gave up on plays. If he's able to add some size it could potentially help boost his recruiting stock.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2180090' first='Chase' last='DeBaun'] - Blue Valley North, 6'6”, 235, OL</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The offensive line group for this class is still a little unproven. That's likely to change quickly this fall. The top of the position group has been producing some recruiting buzz recently, and there are even more OL prospects capable of making a statement during the ‘26 campaign. DeBaun of Blue Valley North is one of those individuals. The big 6-foot-6 offensive tackle was an <em>All-League Honorable Mention</em> pick as a sophomore, and he's sure to be in consideration for <em>All-League</em> honors as a junior.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2180079' first='Carter' last='Middleton'] - Shawnee Mission North, 6'1”, 195, TE&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Middleton of Shawnee Mission North proved to be a reliable pass catcher as a sophomore. He was a go-to target in the RPO game, and he was able to hurt defenses down the seam. It's what he did after the catch that was really impressive though. The perk of being undersized for a tight end is that he's shifty like a receiver. He was able to rack up yards after the catch by making defenders miss with quick cuts and with his speed. North's staff even got him some touches in the backfield. He has the potential to break out this season.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2180111' first='Steven' last='Vaughan'] - Blue Valley Northwest, 6'1, 215, LS</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's not very often that long snappers get mentioned, but it's a must that we show some love to the specialists. Vaughan of Blue Valley Northwest and the rest of the Huskies' specialists were a solid unit last year. He's been busy this offseason perfecting his craft, and is on track to be an <em>All-League</em> pick again. Vaughan is also cable of filling in at center and defensive end.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2072910' first='Brandon' last='Nash'] - Shawnee Mission West,&nbsp; 5'10”, 155 ATH</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lastly, we have Nash of Shawnee Mission West. This young man was explosive in his first varsity season. Nash turned 68 carries into 425 yards and two scores. As a pass catcher, Nash hauled in 18 catches for 315 yards and one touchdown. This earned him an <em>All-League Honorable Mention</em> nod. Look for Nash to emerge as the Vikings' top offensive weapon during the ‘26 campaign.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
