2027 Offensive Weapons Who Excel in their Role

The Houston area may have a problem with too much talent at the receiver position. We have players who may not get an insane amount of targets, but are still impactful and relentless in the effort they put on the field. Here we highlight some guys who excel in their roles for their teams. Being the safety valve, keeping the sticks moving, and making big-time plays when the teams need it. These are players to watch for this spring.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Pettaway is a vertical threat and a field stretch for the Tiger offense. Off the play action, Pettaway uses his speed and smooth route running to create space. Once he has a step on a defense back there is no catching him. Pettaway has shown the ability to win at the catch point as well. On contested throws he fights and displays strength with those catches. In limited action Pettaway found a way to impact the game. When the opportunity presents itself, he will be ready.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Thomas is a serious playmaker and an all-district return man. The speed is on another level. Blink and he is out of there. From the slot he shoots of the line, attacking defenders and breaking his route leaving the opponent behind him. The skill after the catch is more than impressive. He has incredible burst, vision, and elusiveness in the open field. Thomas can turn a games momentum as a return man as well. He is difficult to take down in space and once he sees an opening, its to the house. Electric player who will continue to be a valuable weapon for the Bulldogs.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Washington has shown impressive playmaking abilities as a receiver. He is a dangerous runner after the catch and is capable of turning five-yard hitches into home-runs. Washington hits another gear in the open-field, making one move and he's off to the races. He has strong hands and has proved to be a reliable target at all levels of the field. He is a key contributor and can takeover when necessary. Big-time baller with tremendous upside.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    East shows good strength in his route running, using his power to separate from defensive backs and create space when pressed. He is a chain-mover who has wiggle and can gain those extra yards needed after the catch. He does a great job of making himself available for his QB, finding space and providing a reliable target on crucial downs. East will be a valued target for his senior season and we will get a glimpse of it this spring.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    Matthews is a speedster with inside-out versatility. He is a threat to score whenever he gets behind a secondary and has shown to be impactful at all three levels of the field. Matthews is a strong receiver in the middle of the field where he hauls the ball in and protects himself from free hits. He is elusive in space and can make multiple defenders miss in the open field. Matthews took advantage of the opportunities last season and showed that he is ready to make the next jump. He is a player who has the skillset to be a top playmaker on the War Eagle offense.
