Super Rising Sophomores: Five 2029 Prospects Ready To Emerge

Here are 10 rising sophomore prospects we believe are on the threshold of breakout seasons:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114514' first='Wyatt' last='Babcock'], Bloomfield</strong>: Bloomfield had a proud tradition of producing great quarterbacks, which is a major reason the Bobcats have been practically unbeatable the past few seasons in Class 4A. Is Babcock the next great signal caller for Bloomfield? He's already 6-foot-3, so great size is an asset. His limited varsity experience in 2025 (183 passing yards) should benefit him in 2026 and beyond when he takes over the Bobcat offense. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114569' first='Juan' last='Cuevas'], Estancia</strong>: Cuevas lived in the shadow of fellow freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2114509' first='Devon' last='Chavez']. Understandable since Chavez was one of the most dynamic young players in the state last season with nearly 1,700 rushing yards. But Cuevas did pretty well himself with over 600 rushing yards. Cuevas will likely become a larger factor in Estancia's ground game in 2026 as the Bears aim to keep Chavez healthy. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114506' first='Logan' last='Ignacio-Vigil'], Cuba</strong>: After struggling in 2025, the future looks bright for Cuba with Ignacio-Vigil behind Center. He threw for over 750 yards and 6 TD. The Rams will rely on a young corps of players in 2026, particularly on the offensive side where most of the major contributors last season were seniors.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114597' first='Jude' last='Madrid'], Lovington</strong>: The Wildcats' top two receivers last season were seniors. Who was No. 3? Madrid. Thus, he'll compete for the top WR job. Four of his 13 receptions in&nbsp; 2025 produced a touchdown, so he knows how to get into the end zone. He also averaged 19.3 yards per reception. Able to stretch a defense. Ready to emerge as one of the top young WRs in the state. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2114495' first='Braylon' last='Walton'], Raton</strong>: The Walton Dynasty in Raton still has at least three years left. Braylon quarterbacked the Tigers to the Class 2A playoffs, where they won a first round matchup before losing a shootout to Hozho Academy in the quarterfinals. Encouraging first season for Walton with the Raton varsity. Threw for nearly 800 yards and 12 TD. Already has good size at 6-foot-0, 175 pounds.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
