Today's report continues the coverage on positional group players and what they are doing in the off-season to get ready for this fall. The focus this fine Friday is on headhunter defenders, which in this context is a combination of versatile linebackers and guys who can play anywhere in the secondary.

Another hybrid group who are athletic and skilled enough to seamlessly shift between different positions while maintaining a seek-and-destroy mentality when looking to blow up plays before they get to the line of scrimmage.

In this report, we are taking a look at a a half-dozen multi-positional defenders/athletes who are right on the cusp of break-out seasons this fall.

One player of note, who we are leading off with below, is [player_tooltip player_id='1591357' first='Jaxon' last='Pollard'], a rising-star three-way baller who played for Lansing last season but has since transferred to Jefferson West, where he will team up with the electric Schwinn tandem of, [player_tooltip player_id='1326578' first='Brody' last='Schwinn'], a lethal '27 wideout who caught 55 passes for 1,000+ yards and 18 TD's last fall and [player_tooltip player_id='2127985' first='Brixton' last='Schwinn'], a young phenom '29 gunslinger QB coming off a freshman season when he ran and passed for 2,700+ yards and 37 touchdowns.

Get your popcorn ready, this trifecta is is going to put on a show this fall.

So without further adieu, let's take a closer look at these versatile defenders:

[player_tooltip player_id='1591357' first='Jaxon' last='Pollard'], 6'0, 200, DB/RB/LS, Jefferson West, '27, as mentioned above, he is coming off a junior season at Lansing when he ran for 1,092 yards, passed for 178 yards and caught passes for 40 yards, while accounting for 17 TD's. His offensive game tends to get most of the attention but he is also a standout defensive back with great read and react skills and closing speed tracking the ball. Last year he piled up 51 tackles and also had a pick-6 on a 52-yard interception for a TD. He is also an excellent long snapper on special teams. A versatile athlete, he can do a little bit of everything on both sides of the ball. Once the season came to a close he has continued training, working on speed and power with Ryan Koontz at Mammoth Sports Academy. He is also getting ready to play baseball this spring while continuing training for his senior season. This guy is primed for a big year on what appears to be one of the top 3A teams this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1622499' first='Tommy' last='Knighton'], 6'1, 205, LB/RB, Blue Valley North, '28, up first for the juniors-to-be is another multi-positional baller who can play running back on offense as needed but has amped things up on the other side of the ball as a punishing linebacker. He is coming off a dominating sophomore season when he had 100 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and finished the year strong with double-digit tackles in three of his last four games. He can play any of the linebacker positions and with his instincts and a nose for the ball, shuts down the run game between the tackles but can also track down speedy backs on the perimeter. Once the season came to a close he moved right into training mode, pounding the iron while also working on burst and quickness with Top Speed training. He is also busy cross-training in lacrosse. His camp-combine plans are still undetermined but plans on hitting a number of them. This guy is going to dominate this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1934081' first='Isaac' last='Castaneda'], 6'0, 170, DB/WR, Liberal, '28, up next is a player who caught my eye last season when I was looking at some of his Redskin teammates. He is a young two-way playmaker who lines up at WR on offense and has really stepped up as a promising CB on defense. Last fall in six games of action he was in on 13 tackles and had a fumble recovery while also playing lock-down defense whether the ball was in the air or on the ground from his corner position. Using his speed and athleticism he can play suffocating coverage but also collapse down on the ball to make jarring open-field tackles. When the season ended he went right into hoops and also started training daily with his teammates and with Sharp Performance on the weekends in Salina as well. This spring he will run the 200m and 400m in track and is planning on hitting camps at McPherson, KU, K-State and is considering others. He is definitely ready for a breakout season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1616521' first='Oliver' last='Kline'] , 6'2, 180, DB/WR, Emporia, '28, he is another rising star who I started following a year ago when he intercepted a pass in the endzone and ran it back 102 yards for a pick-6 TD. That's a good way to get attention. Once I started following him he turned out to be a three-way baller who can play wide receiver or running back on offense and return kicks and punts on special teams, but where he stands out is as a fast-reacting safety. He plays an instinctive, physical game and once he reads run, flies to the ball and brings the hammer stopping the play before it even gets started. Last year he had 28 tackles, a tackle for loss and two interceptions, and added 350+ all-purpose yards running, receiving and returning. His off-season has been strong so far, training for this fall and playing baseball this spring. His numbers are looking good as well, with PR's recently of 34" in the vertical and a .99 in the 10-yard fly. This guy is ready for the next step.

[player_tooltip player_id='1578110' first='Ryder' last='King'], 5'10, 180, DB/ATH, Blue Valley, '28, and last but certainly not least we have another standout defender who can play safety or corner or wherever you need a baller. He is coming off a good sophomore season when he gave fans and coaches a glimpse of great things to come with 15 tackles, one tackle for loss, an interception and five PD's. He stepped up in one of the most competitive leagues in the state and delivered, which sets the stage for a big season this fall. With his versatile skill sets he can play blanket coverage on the perimeter as a shut-down corner or play over the top as a ballhawk safety. Once the year was over he shifted gears to the off-season grind, lifting, working on speedwork and explosiveness and is also honing his d-back skills playing 7v7 for GT7 TreGang. He also has a busy summer planned between putting the finishing touches on his training and deciding on which camps to hit. This guy is the real-deal.
