When the late afternoon sessions at the Carolinas Coaches Combines begin, it will be a glimpse into the future.

The future of the combines.

The future of the biggest names in the class.

And the future of the all-star events using these events to help select their teams each year.

We won't have to wait long to see many of the names already on those respective short lists. When it comes to the Fort Dorchester site on March 29, we've already got a number of 2028s we expect to lead the charge. These battle-tested rising juniors have mostly been involved in the Combines before. More importantly, they've all given us reason to believe their skill sets are above the norm.

Here's what each of them brings to the table.

[player_tooltip player_id='1016577' first='Elijah' last='Mitchell'] WR, Berkeley

A year ago, Mitchell (pictured) laid down some of the measurables that backed up what we already knew to be an impressive frame. He was 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, possessed a 78-inch wing span and crushed his broad jump (114 inches). Mitchell spent much of last spring serving as the Stags' back-up quarterback. If Berkeley's offense is firing on all cylinders this fall, Mitchell will have a huge say in it. There's no reason for us to expect less from his combine showing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1582108' first='Trevor' last='Tonon'] LB and [player_tooltip player_id='1674089' first='Chase' last='Tonon'] DB, Bishop England

The Bishops twins are both ranked inside the overall Top 25 of our 2028 rankings for a reason. And while their individual skills are altered slightly, the crux of the discussion on either of them is this: Highly productive, massive motor, excellent size and more than enough field time to feel very, very comfortable under the spotlight. Trevor and Chase are likely going to walk in the door together to Fort D and, go their separate ways and then get confused frequently while doing their thing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1312432' first='Jace' last='Shropshire'] DL, Ridge View

Last year, prior to his transfer from nearby Blythewood, Shropshire showed up to the York site of the combines and quickly showed that while he wasn't as big as initially advertised, he was a budding star. Shropshire's 78-inch wing span, 4.79-second 40, 30.8-inch vertical and 105-inch broad jump were an appetizer for his 15 reps on the 185-pound bench. Shropshire was limited as a sophomore at Ridge View, but his time is clearly coming.

[player_tooltip player_id='1763272' first='Michael' last='Poole'] LB/DL, May River

Poole is one of the most electric athletes in the state you haven't heard of much outside of PRZ, and we think that should change. At close to 6-foot-3, he's got the length and reach to dominate in a lot of situations, which is why he eclipsed 100 total tackles as a sophomore. He's a consistent presence in offensive backfields coming off the edge, and that's with pads on. When his quick first step is factored into the combines, it should help elevate his position.

[player_tooltip player_id='1821491' first='Kaleb' last='Moore'] DB, Marion

We can't wait to get Moore's updated measurables, because his production suggests someone who is bigger than the 5-foot-8 figure we were initially given off him. He does so many different things for the Swamp Foxes, although he was nominated for the combine as a defensive back. His past play screams versatile talent, and all those other things he does well should translate well during his trip to Fort Dorchester. If he's got those measurables to match, it's go time.

[player_tooltip player_id='1816457' first='Andrew' last='Frick'] QB, Brookland-Cayce

Had it not been for the previous starter transferring out, we might not have heard a ton about Frick last fall. Instead, that player did leave, and it opened up the door for 6-foot-3, 170-pound sophomore to shine. All he did was throw for 2,287 yards and 18 touchdowns. He's brought in a lot of inexperienced gunslinger qualities with him (which led to many of his 14 picks), but his arm strength is there and his accuracy is much better than that interception tally might suggest.

[player_tooltip player_id='1672894' first='Brady' last='McDowell'] WR, Carolina Forest

McDowell is a top-100 player in our rankings, he was a starter all year at one of the state's biggest schools and he's in line to become WR1 for that program chasing a couple older players running out of eligibility. And we're guessing you still haven't heard of him. Go ahead and get familiar with him now. McDowell is a burner who hit 22.43 miles per hour in the GPS vest at the 2025 combine and then caught 27 passes for 509 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore last fall. He's a home run ball waiting to happen on every throw his direction.

[player_tooltip player_id='1467828' first='London' last='Wilder'] ATH, Socastee

Like his region counterpart, Wilder also hit 22.43 miles per hour at the 2025 combine. And that came after he missed much of his freshman season (when he was already a starter for the Braves) and then a solid chunk of his sophomore year with a different injury. Some of that dings and dents along the way have been directly attributed to his lack of size. But he's clearly built the foundation some. We think it should be enough for him to turn heads at Fort Dorchester like he did last year at West Florence.

[player_tooltip player_id='1817499' first='Jay' last='Todd'] LB, Loris

Todd shot out of a cannon as a sophomore, when he racked up 113 tackles. He's 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds and more than mobile. What we want to see out of him during the combine is how well he can cover in the flat during some of the one-on-one drills, not to mention his metrics in the skill events during the early going. Todd very likely won't dominate any of those, but his collective numbers could show what all he's bringing back to the Loris defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1010338' first='Cameron' last='Gleaton'] TE/WR, Midland Valley

Of all the players from this class nominated and soon-to-be invited to Fort Dorchester, none are higher up our rankings than Gleaton. He's a hybrid tight end/receiver who is quickly trending toward the latter simply because of how fast he is. He pumped out a second-best 22.54 miles per hour a year ago, has put on some size and is now in the 6-foot-3, 210-pound range. There's not a pass he can't catch and if his tale of the tape and GPS range both fall where we think they will, everyone better be paying attention to him from this point forward.

When the late afternoon sessions at the Carolinas Coaches Combines begin, it will be a glimpse into the future.
