Last season, he played on junior varsity for Bishop McDevitt. He demonstrates a good ability to play both as a slot defensive back and as an outside cornerback. At both positions, he shows a good ability to cover. He also does a good job of breaking on the ball when it is thrown near him. He also shows a good ability to make tackles in the open field. Howard-Shank has a chance to be a good player this year, and he should be able to get on the field to play varsity. He played as both a wide receiver and a safety for them. As a wide receiver, I saw limited reps, but you saw a talented player. He catches the ball well, especially in traffic between defenders. Then, on defense, is where you see him make a big impact. He played as a roving safety, where he was excellent. He was outstanding at reading the quarterback's eyes and making plays on the ball thrown near him. He is also a good tackler, especially in the open field. His ability to make tackles all over the field is good. He even recovered a fumble by being near the ball. Then he made an impact as a player on the kickoff team by running downfield and making tackles. His film is good. Playing as a wide receiver, he can make plays with his feet after he catches the ball. He also shows a good ability to high point the ball. When the ball is thrown near him, he usually does a good job of jumping over defenders for the ball. He also shows potential as a defensive back. With a strong off-season, he should be a bigger contributor for Simon Gratz. During one-on-ones, he did a good job of driving defenders off the ball. Playing against a good group of defensive linemen, he moved his feet well. He also competed and won many matchups at the showcase. Then I went back and watched his film, and you see a good two-way lineman. He is a good defensive lineman who is hard to move off his spot. Then, as an offensive lineman, you see the talent as well.
