CBs recruiting updates as action heats up for 2027 class

Rapid-fire transfer-portal movement dominated recruiting headlines all over the country for the first two and a half weeks of the new year.   That was as prevalent as anywhere in Louisiana where a long list of former prep standouts and current college players alike were on the move.   But once the transfer action largely subsided and college coaches were able to start hitting the roads and the phones to high school prospects, a slew of new offers headed out to rising seniors as the 2027 class begins to take more of the forefront in prep recruiting.   Note: Many colleges continued adding 2026 athletes on the traditional February signing day — although in many cases just some final pieces to incoming high school classes that were heavily stocked in December's early period — and some may potentially still find room for limited late additions.   But Prep Redzone Louisiana is in the process of through the biggest updates on the recruiting trail that caught our attention during the second half of January and first half of February, position group by position group as 2027 starts taking center stage.     [player_tooltip player_id='1801186' first='Eldric' last='Cambrice Jr.'] — 5-10, 170 DB — Edna Karr   The Cougars will see major roster turnover this year, but have a slew of talented players poised to take on bigger roles. Cambrice is one of the budding stars of the 2027 class to watch, and colleges are quickly catching on. Arkansas, Old Dominion and Oregon State have all extended offers in recent weeks, joining earlier offers from Auburn, Troy and Southern Miss. And Houston, Florida State, UNLV and others have been showing interest.   [player_tooltip player_id='463125' first='Savoy' last='Guidry'] — 6-1, 190 DB — Holy Cross   The versatile defensive back, highly ranked on Prep Redzone Louisiana's lists going all the way back to freshman year, entered his final high school offseason with several offers already on his list and has only continued to blow up further in recent weeks with Arkansas, Old Dominion, Nebraska, Stanford, Oregon State, Kansas State, Colorado and Purdue offers and several others checking in.   [player_tooltip player_id='1611403' first='Mitchell' last='Harris Jr.'] — 5-10, 160 DB — Archbishop Rummel   The Raiders' corner wrapped up junior season with Sacramento State and Nicholls State offers and has recently added Oregon State and Idaho to his growing list of options. Harris was an all-district first-team selection this fall in the always-strong Catholic League and an all-state honorable-mention in Louisiana's highest level at Class 5A.   [player_tooltip player_id='739753' first='Landon' last='Johnson'] — 6-1, 180 DB/ATH — Madison Prep   Another of Prep Redzone Louisiana's highest-ranked prospects in the class, "Manu" has started the new year with another string of offers from Old Dominion, UNLV, Rice, Louisiana Tech and McNeese State to join his Vanderbilt, Baylor and Tulsa offers from last offseason.   [player_tooltip player_id='1737490' first='Bra'jon' last='Melancon'] — 6-2, 160 DB/WR — North Iberville   Determining with which position group to list the Bears' two-way and multisport star is an interesting discussion in and of itself. Melancon is a decorated high school player and an intriguing prospect as both a wide receiver or cornerback with recent offers from Memphis, UCF and McNeese State and visits from LSU and Houston.
