Oregon Stock Up Showcase: MVPs and standouts

Dozens of high school football players from around the Pacific Northwest traveled to Pacific University in Forest Grove for the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase.   During the three-hour event lots of players stood out and made big plays, but here are the MVPs and standouts for each position.   Overall MVP: DL [player_tooltip player_id='1654734' first='PJ' last='Tautu'], Central Catholic (2028)   The 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive lineman is Prep Redzone's No. 1 player in Oregon for the class of 2028.   With that kind of hype, you always expect a dominant performance.   Tautu delivered that and more, showcasing his blend of size and athleticism on a day where he absolutely dominated the competition.   He holds early offers from Oregon State, Washington State and others, but he projects as a national recruit.   In fact, when one coach noticed his class was “2028” he expressed that he didn't believe it to be accurate.   Coaches, it's accurate.    Tautu is the real deal.    QB MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='1612598' first='Quenton' last='Lake'], McNary (2028)   McNary has found a real one in Lake, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound signal-caller with a big arm.   While there were several quality quarterback performances on the day, Lake stood out as the clear-cut No. 1.   He had an exceptional showing and should generate recruiting interest soon.   QB standouts: Ethan [player_tooltip player_id='1689456' first='Noah' last='Solo'], Springfield (2026); [player_tooltip player_id='1078484' first='Ethan' last='Wylam'], Sprague (2028); [player_tooltip player_id='1539446' first='Ryker' last='Rohaley'], Sheldon (2028)   Coaches pulled aside both Solo and Wylam for the elite competition, as both had solid days throwing the football.   It can be difficult for a young prospect to put himself out there by making an introduction, but not only did 2028 6-foot-1 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1539446' first='Ryker' last='Rohaley'] make sure to introduce himself, he was well spoken (3.75 GPA), made strong eye contact and went out of his way to highlight a teammate who he felt deserved some love - 2028 running back [player_tooltip player_id='2101289' first='Cody' last='Hall'].    That's leadership - and it's a great sign for a Sheldon program that has a strong 2028 nucleus returning from what was a disappointing season.   Rohaley throws an accurate ball and conducted himself like a young, hungry prospect should.   It was an excellent reminder that how you carry yourself can be just as important as how you play.      RB MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='1125493' first='Reece' last='Ballew'], Mountainside (2027)   The top running back on the day was Ballew - for a multitude of reasons.   Not only does the 5-foot-10, 180-pound back display good footwork, he's also very fast and proved to be a difficult cover for both linebackers and defensive backs alike.   Ballew is a player to watch, and raised his stock this weekend.   RB standouts: [player_tooltip player_id='2079648' first='Easton' last='Grubb'], Tualatin (2029); [player_tooltip player_id='1563740' first='Mason' last='Girt'], Lakeridge (2029)   During his freshman campaign, Grubb rushed for more than 2,600 yards and a freshman team record 41 touchdowns.   He's also already benching 275 pounds with a 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame.   Tualatin will have the best trio of backs in the state - with [player_tooltip player_id='1609595' first='Iden' last='Rule'], [player_tooltip player_id='937241' first='Cole' last='Hachmeister'] and Grubb.   Frankly, it's the kind of trio that wins state titles.   I hadn't yet seen Grubb, but I'd heard of him.   Yup, he's legit!    Lakeridge has a potential young star on its hands as well, as Girt looked the part of a future star.   The 5-foot-8, 150-pound back is clearly still growing, but he has excellent speed and showcased an impressive skillset Saturday.    WR MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='1256167' first='Samuel' last='Johnson'], South Salem (2027)   The 6-foot-4, 170-pound three-sport athlete was one of the surprises of the camp.   He displayed strong hands, excellent ball skills, crisp route-running and a big catch radius.   I entered the day liking what I had seen from Johnson. I left thinking I had underrated his ability by a good distance.   LB MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='1878396' first='Aidan' last='Galusha'], Dallas (2027)   PRZ was already a fan of Aidan Galosha, but he was extremely impressive today.   The well-built, fluid 6-foot-1, 200-pound ‘backer looks like he could deliver a punishing blow in pads.   But camps highlight coverage, and he was the most agile ‘backer of the group as well.   Galusha will be a player worth keeping an eye on going forward, as he was really impressive on the day.    DB MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='845242' first='Sean' last='Bour-Nelson'], Lakeridge (2027)    The grandson of a college football Hall of Fame member and the son of former Oregon defensive back J.D. Nelson, Bour-Nelson ran a 4.5 40 to start the day, then proved to be sticky in coverage.   He showed off good footwork both in drills and in coverage, then displayed excellent ball-skills at the point of attack, securing at least one highlight-worthy interception.   Standout: Dom Kelly, WA transfer (2029)   Dom Kelly had the second-best day of the all the defensive backs.   Why is that notable? He's a 2029 who turned 15 earlier this month.   The still-growing 5-foot-9, 145-pound defensive back has rare twitch and the swagger you'd expect in an elite DB - he wore Ray Ban sunglasses throughout what was a surprisingly-sunny camp.   Kelly still needs to grow, but his sudden burst and athleticism were notable.   He was very impressive for his age.    Injured but showed up: DL [player_tooltip player_id='936855' first='Nate' last='Peau'], Central Catholic (2027); Lakeridge ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1509111' first='Jagger' last='Salazar'] (2029)   It's criminal that Peau, an all-state performer and 3.9 GPA student, doesn't have any scholarship offers.   The 6-foot-3, 310-pound versatile two-way lineman was a tone-setter up front for a Central Catholic team that made the state title game this fall.   Peau is still recovering from an injury he suffered in the state championship game, but it was great to see him in person.   He has broad shoulders, a good frame and was quick to smile.   Great attitude. Great football player.    I'm eager to see his recruitment take off a little soon.   [player_tooltip player_id='1509111' first='Jagger' last='Salazar'] was also in attendance.   The 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete looks like an older prospect, but is still just a 2029 kid.   Salazar could blossom into a high school star as soon as this fall and PRZ can't wait to get a chance to see him in person.   Still, it was great for him to come out and introduce himself.
