2026 Bloomfield WR [player_tooltip player_id='1137877' first='Kaleb' last='Hutchens'], who helped lead the Bobcats to their second consecutive state championship in November, announced Thursday morning that he has committed to New Mexico Highlands.

Hutchens had 53 receptions for 1,209 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior in 2025. He averaged 22.8 yards per catch, a testament to his speed, ability to find open space, and knack for stretching defenses.

He first saw action with the Bloomfield varsity as a sophomore in 2023 when he had 24 receptions for 356 yards and 1 TD. In his career, Hutchens had 108 receptions for 2,218 yards and 26 TD for the Bobcats.

Bloomfield went 35-2 in Hutchens' three seasons with the Bobcats varsity and won two state titles.

Hutches is the fourth high-profile New Mexico player to commit to NMHU in the last few days. Earlier this week, the Las Cruces trio of [player_tooltip player_id='1137388' first='Daniel' last='Amaro'], WR [player_tooltip player_id='1142363' first='Francisco' last='Winnikoff'] and DB [player_tooltip player_id='1266523' first='Isaac' last='Gomez'] verbally committed to the Cowboys.

NMHU is on the rise under head coach Kurt Taufa'asau, who just completed his second season in Las Vegas after leading NMMI to unprecedented success during his tenure there in Roswell.

The Cowboys were 6-5 in 2025, their first winning season since 2012. They swept in-state rivals Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico for the first time in years. They've led the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in rushing the past two seasons.
