ORANGEBURG | If what Bamberg-Erhardt quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1822457' first='Brian' last='Mcmillan'] said after the Red Raiders dispatched Lamar 35-21 in the Class A state championship game is true, the rest of the state might be in trouble.

The junior ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more to cap one of the best statistical seasons in South Carolina football history in giving him 70 total touchdowns on the season.

“I could have done better because I didn't play to my full ability, but I still got the job done,” Mcmillan said. “The connection we have is unreal. We've been together since flag football, and this just feels great to bring a championship back to Bamberg.”

Mcmillan was a wide receiver for the Red Raiders last season but coach Corey Crosby made it clear from the outset that he's a quarterback that played wide receiver and not the other way around. He finished with 275 yards passing and 49 yards rushing to go along with the four touchdowns. And for good measure, he added seven tackles on defense.

The season he had proves that point. He finished the season 172-of-223 for 4,095 yards with 47 touchdowns and he added 902 yards rushing and 23 scores on 98 carries. That's 4,997 totals and 70 TDs.

“That kid is special,” B-E coach Corey Crosby said. “He's probably one of the best quarterbacks in the state. He keeps plays moving. He trusts the system and doesn't try to do anything that he isn't supposed to do.”

It's the first state championship for Bamberg-Ehrhardt since 1990. They will be the only team in South Carolina to finish with an undefeated season and polished off opponents to the tune of 758 to 122.

There were other players that made it happen. [player_tooltip player_id='1196428' first='Jalen' last='McGraw'] scored on a nine-yard run and finished with 83 yards rushing on 10 attempts and an interception and two tackles on defense. [player_tooltip player_id='1822454' first='Rocky' last='Walker'] got the offense started with a 79-yard TD reception. Charles [player_tooltip player_id='1823853' first='Anthony' last='Williams'] ended the scoring when he tight-roped the sideline to score on a 27-yard pass from Mcmillan. [player_tooltip player_id='1819949' first='Jason' last='Youmans'] ended with five receptions for 105 yards and added an interception, a pass breakup and six tackles on defense.

“They believed and took pride in buying into the system because last year we didn't play like a team,” Crosby said. “This was all about the team and that's why we're 15-0 right now.”

Youmans echoed those thoughts.

“This feels great,” he said. “I dreamed about this when I was a kid. My brother played in a state championship and ever since then I wanted to win one for the town. Our connection is the best. We've been playing together since we were little boys. We've been winning championships since rec league and we didn't want to stop. We deserved this.”

It was a tight game after the first two quarters after Lamar's [player_tooltip player_id='1165108' first='Zori' last='Pierce'] scored on a two-yard run on the final play of the half to make it 14-13 in favor of the Red Raiders. It took McMillan and company two drives to build a cushion that was too much to overcome.

They drove 57 yards in five plays that was capped by Mcmillan's 20-yard run. After forcing a three and out on defense, Mcmillan scored his second rushing touchdown on a 13-yard run that capped a six-play, 54-yard drive and made it 28-13 with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter.

“We just came out and did what we're coached to do,” Mcmillan said.

Lamar was in the state championship for the first time since 2016 in making its 11th championship game appearance. Pierce finished with 99 yards rushing and 169 yards passing. He ran for two touchdowns and threw a 15-yard TD pass to JuJu Morris late in the fourth quarter. Morris finished with six receptions for 42 yards.

OTHER BAMBERG-EHRHARDT NOTABLES

Darion Sease LB, 2027 – The junior finished with 11 tackles and a quarterback hurry. The Red Raiders defense was swarming and Sease was right in the middle of it. He finishes with 145 tackles on the season, 18.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. He's going to be one of the top returning tacklers in the state next season.

Christopher Washington WR/DB, 2026 – Washington had seven solo tackles and nine total stops. That gives him 121 tackles on the season. He was right in the middle of a lot of Lamar's passing attempts and while he didn't have an interception or pass breakup, he was able to make the tackle and not allow a lot of yards after catch.

Darren Carter O/DL, 2026 – Carter only had three tackles, but he had a huge 14-yard sack in the fourth quarter when the Silver Foxes were attempting to make the comeback. He started both ways and was instrumental on both sides of the ball.

OTHER LAMAR NOTABLES

Nygel Eady RB/LB, 2026 – Eady ran for 74 yards and added five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. He was the second-best offensive option as the Silver Foxes finished with 316 yards of total offense. He kept the chains moving in the first half before Lamar had to go to the passing game in the second half.

[player_tooltip player_id='1822289' first='Davaughn' last='Locust'] OL/DL, 2026 – Locust is another player that rarely came off the field as he started on both the offensive and defensive lines. He tied for the team-lead with six tackles and added a tackle for loss.

[player_tooltip player_id='1422623' first='DQ' last='Green'] RB/LB, 2027 – Green made an impact early on both sides of the ball. He finished with three catches for 22 yards and added five tackles. He will be a big piece of the Lamar team next season as they retool and reload for another run at a state championship.
