Edna Karr took its toughest shot of the season to date — from a familiar foe — but managed to survive on the strength of its often-timely takeaways, right down to the wire.

The Cougars forced and recovered a fumble in the final minutes to punctuate a four-turnover night for the defense and hold off Catholic (Baton Rouge), 17-10, to advance to the Division-I Select state championship.

Both teams shut out the other in the second half and held one another to season-low scoring totals..

Here's a look at several of the eye-catching standouts from the contest.

[player_tooltip player_id='710991' first='Richard' last='Anderson'] — 6-4, 330 DL — Edna Karr (2026)

The newly signed LSU defensive tackle was his typical, game-wrecking self for much of the evening as a disruptive force at the point of attack. Anderson anchored a defense that slowed down Catholic's often overpowering run game, other than a few flashes, as well as about anyone this season and also managed to generate enough push in the middle, even against double teams to apply pressure in the passing game and deflect at least two passes: one on a fourth-down stop and another for an interception.

[player_tooltip player_id='401932' first='Aiden' last='Hall'] — 6-1, 190 DB — Edna Karr (2026)

Anderson's fellow LSU-bound leader of the Cougars' defense was among the defenders flying around the field and unloading one violent stop after another. Hall showed his great break and sure tackling sideline to sideline and crashing down toward the line of scrimmage to make plays and snatched a third-quarter interception in the red zone for a critical stop in the shutout second half.

Kylon Jones — 6-1, 225 LB — Edna Karr (2026)

The senior safety played likely the best game of his season when his team needed him most. Jones flew around the field for several tackles, corralled an interception off one of Anderson's deflected passes and joining Cornell Williams and Ronell Kindell Jr. in forcing the game-sealing fumble that [player_tooltip player_id='1011625' first='Romeo' last='Brown'] pounced on for the recovery.

[player_tooltip player_id='920629' first='John' last='Johnson'] — 6-0, 170 QB/ATH — Edna Karr (2026)

The Cougars found the end zone twice in the tight battle, and the new West Virginia signee had his hand in both: a strike to Fresno State-signed wide receiver Xavier Owens and a dash on which he broke past defenders to the sideline and tight-roped his way to pay-dirt.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601790' first='Kevin' last='Martin Jr.'] — 6-0, 200 LB — Edna Karr (2026)

The newly Nicholls State-signed linebacker was a tone-setter with explosive tackles and quarterback hits early and often as the Cougars came out the gate fire up and aggressive and maintained that energy the bulk of the night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1237623' first='Maurice' last='Williams'] Jr. — 6-0, 170 DB — Edna Karr (2026)

The Colorado signee joined Hall and Jones with an interception, extinguishing a Catholic threat to score before halftime to ensure the Cougars took their 17-10 lead into the locker room.

[player_tooltip player_id='401737' first='Blaine' last='Bradford'] — 6-2, 205 DB — Catholic (2026)

Like his counterpart Hall, Bradford chased down hard-hitting tackles from sideline to sideline to help lead a stout all-around defensive effort against a typically explosive offense. The Ohio State

[player_tooltip player_id='1610241' first='Jude' last='Chamberlain'] — 6-5, 230 TE — Catholic (2027)

The big junior tight end was the Bears' top weapon in the passing game with a few long gains — both in tight coverage over the middle and getting loose near the sideline — to move the chains.

[player_tooltip player_id='1602055' first='Baylor' last='Graves'] — 6-0, 185 QB — Catholic (2026)

The semifinal featured some ups and downs for the senior quarterback, highlighted by a 36-yard dash through a speedy Edna Karr defense for the Bears' lone touchdown.

[player_tooltip player_id='1602064' first='Harrison' last='Kidder'] — 6-2, 210 LB — Catholic (2026)

The Ragin' Cajuns signee was as active a tackler as anyone on the Catholic defense, including a couple third-down stops to get the unit off the field.

Ian Locklar — 6-0, 190 DB — Catholic (2026)

The senior safety was another physical tackler for the Bears' defense, including a hard-hitting highlight in space in the first half, and snatched a second-half interception for the second straight week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1356164' first='Jayden' last='Vessell'] — 6-2, 200 EDGE — Catholic (2027)

The junior edge rusher was among the Bears' eye-catchers in the semifinals for the second straight year, consistently winning his matchups to bring pressure up front and making multiple stops behind the line.
