The opening game of championship weekend featured the 1A State Championship between Wilson Prep and Robbinsville. Wilson Prep entered as the clear underdog—a small charter school facing a Robbinsville crowd that outnumbered their fans nearly 3-to-1.

The first thing that immediately stood out was the size on both sides. For a 1A matchup, both teams were loaded with big bodies up front and physically developed skill players. From the opening kickoff, it was clear this would be a defensive battle. Both defenses were disciplined, physical, and relentless, making every yard hard to come by and turning points into a premium.

The only touchdowns of the game came in an exchange late in the second quarter, and remarkably, that sequence accounted for all the scoring. Both offenses showed flashes and were able to move the ball at times, but red-zone execution was limited as each defense tightened up when it mattered most.

Because of the low offensive output, many of my evaluations are projection-based, drawn from brief flashes of ability, physical traits, and situational performance rather than consistent production. Even so, the game offered a clear look at toughness, discipline, and championship-level defense from both programs.

[player_tooltip player_id='2075151' first='Ethan' last='Nelson'] proved to be the ultimate do-it-all offensive weapon and earned Offensive Player of the Game honors. A true super athlete, Nelson lined up all over the field—working out of the slot, taking jet sweeps, and creating mismatches wherever he was needed. When the quarterback was forced to come out of the game at a critical moment, Nelson stepped in and handled the position in the clutch, a clear sign of the trust the coaching staff had in him.

That trust was fully rewarded. In the game's biggest moment, Nelson took the field as the kicker and delivered the game-winning kick, sealing the championship. His performance spoke volumes about his character and value to the team—trustworthy, clutch, selfless, and willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win.

[player_tooltip player_id='2060060' first='Travon' last='Usher'] was the overall Player of the Game and simply willed his team across the finish line. The #BigFish Player of the Game, Usher was dominant in the run game, running with power and purpose, and even stepping up as a lead blocker when the moment called for it. He accounted for the game's first—and only—touchdown, securing a perfectly placed pass and finishing the play for the score. In a defensive battle where every play mattered, Usher consistently delivered when his team needed him most.

Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1580029' first='Nazir' last='Vines'] caught the only touchdown of the game and made his presence felt throughout the day. He consistently came up with timely receptions in a defensive-heavy matchup and played a crucial role in the run game with his physical, unselfish blocking on several big runs. Vines is the type of player who impacts winning in multiple ways—selfless, dependable, and team-first. With his ideal size and skill set, he has significant upside and plenty of untapped potential at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1752168' first='Isiac' last='Collins'] earned Offensive Player of the Game honors for Robbinsville and was a constant force all afternoon. A mountain of a man, Collins projects well as an H-back at the next level, yet has enough speed and burst to carry the football effectively. He scored Robbinsville's touchdown and powered in the two-point conversion, showcasing his strength in short-yardage situations. Nearly automatic for positive yardage, Collins is a powerful, downhill runner who consistently falls forward and is almost guaranteed three yards in most situations.

Kyzik Teesateskie is another total-package athlete and a true difference maker on the field. Standing over 6'0” and around 200 pounds, he has the physical tools to impact the game in multiple ways. While opportunities with the ball in his hands were limited, Teesateskie consistently made his presence felt through physical, effective blocking. His unselfish play and size-speed combination point to significant upside when given more offensive opportunities.
