TA Longhorns 7v7 Tryouts: Notable Standouts

Fresh off a national top finish last offseason, the TA Longhorns entered their new 7v7 cycle with high expectations and their first high school 18U group already looks like it will add to the program's growing reputation. With established success at the 10U, 12U, and 14U levels, the Longhorns' tryout event showcased a deep collection of talent ranging from Class of 2027 juniors to elite middle school prospects who project as future national recruits.   What stood out most was the combination of physical tools, technical polish, and long-term upside across the board. Below are the top performers.    Thomas has a long, wiry frame with plenty of developmental room exactly the type of athlete college staffs track late. Moves smoothly and carries no wasted motion in space.   Coverage + Defensive Notes:   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Uses length extremely well to disrupt spacing. </li>   <li>Fluid hips for his build; can run stride-for-stride with quicker receivers. </li>   <li>Strong pursuit angles, consistent tackler on fall film. </li>   <li>Showed flashes as a situational pass rusher. </li> </ul>   Offensive Notes:   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>On film, displays RB versatility: vision, burst, and power. </li>   <li>Good second-level acceleration. </li> </ul>   True ATH with a growing ceiling. Could develop into a DB, RB, or hybrid defensive player. One of the most versatile 2027s in attendance.     Grant was arguably the top overall performer regardless of age group. High-level arm talent with a clean, repeatable motion.   QB Notes:   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Live arm, ball jumps out with velocity. </li>   <li>Clean throwing mechanics; compact release. </li>   <li>Uses lower half extremely well for his age. </li>   <li>Shows anticipation, timing, and understanding of leverage. </li>   <li>Film shows pocket mobility and dual-threat capability. </li> </ul>   Consistently threw layered touch passes during session.     One of the top long-term prospects in the building. Taylor's frame jumps off the page—legit 6'3” with a wingspan that allows him to make plays others simply can't.   Defensive Notes (Safety/Hybrid):   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Natural instincts show up immediately. </li>   <li>Long stride speed; closes ground in a hurry. </li>   <li>Good hips for a tall DB, stays square and transitions smoothly. </li>   <li>Junior-year production (57 tackles, 2 TFL, INT) matches the traits. </li> </ul>   Offensive Notes (WR):   Can finish through traffic.   High-point winner, uses length effectively.   Shows natural hands and catch radius.     Enriquez put together one of the most complete two-way performances of the day. He checked in with a compact, athletic build and a strong lower half, showing the burst and balance of a true RB/LB hybrid. Displayed physical hand-fighting in coverage.   Multiple PBUs thanks to timing + closing speed.     One of the most naturally gifted middle school athletes at the event. Taylor is advanced physically and technically.   Athlete Notes:   Shows early signs of high-level field instincts.   Quick-twitch mover with elite short-area burst.   Clean footwork, gets in and out of breaks effortlessly.   Strong hands, reliable catcher away from the body.     Edwards was one of the most compelling young receivers with his length and ball skills.   WR Notes:   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Big catch radius; adjusts well to off-target throws. </li>   <li>Shows fluidity navigating space. </li>   <li>Won multiple 1v1 reps with body control and vertical timing. </li>   <li>Tracks the ball naturally. </li> </ul>   Intriguing long-term WR prospect with growth-frame and upside.     One of the most polished young receivers at the event. Woodley brings size, strong hands, and advanced route discipline for a middle school prospect.   WR Notes:   Smooth change of direction, efficient transitions.   Crisp footwork, doesn't drift on routes.   Long arms + strong hands = reliable catch radius.   Shows maturity finishing plays through contact.     Puga is built like a traditional TE, broad shoulders, strong core, and plays with natural physicality. Quick in and out of breaks; creates windows.   Strong hands, reliable through traffic.
