Playoff Week 2 – The Race For Miami

The first round of the state football playoffs are over.
While many of the top programs advanced to the region semifinal round, others will put the equipment away and get ready for the long off-season.
As many who have participated in the post season already know that NOTHING is a for sure thing. On any given day, especially with the landscape of high school sports these days – anyone can get beat, and that's why this second round will certainly take on new meaning for programs who have not experienced championship football.
With many teams looking to advance to that coveted Thanksgiving Week, you can guarantee that no matter where you head this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, there will be plenty of competition.
With all that in mind, here is a look at this week's Prep Redzone Florida's top programs:
1 Bradenton IMG Academy (Independent, 9-0). SEASON OVER.
2. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The six-time state champions started the playoffs with a 58-7 win against Palm Bay Heritage. THIS WEEK: Coconut Creek (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Hollywood McArthur (9-2) or No. 28 Delray Beach Atlantic (10-1).
3. Miami Northwestern (3A, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The Bulls opened defense of their 3A state championship with a 70-0 win against Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy. THIS WEEK: Key West (7-4). NEXT WEEK: Naples Lely (8-3) or No. 6 Miami Central (9-1).
4. Seffner Armwood (6A, 11-0). LAST WEEK: The Hawks had no problem with Melbourne, 43-0. THIS WEEK: Viera (7-4). NEXT WEEK: Kissimmee Osceola (7-4) or Groveland South Lake (10-1).
5. Jacksonville Raines (3A, 10-0). LAST WEEK: The defending 3A state runner up Vikings had little problem with Glen St. Mary Baker County, 43-6. THIS WEEK: Pensacola West Florida (6-4). NEXT WEEK: Tallahassee Godby (5-6) or Jacksonville Bishop Kenny (9-2).
6. Miami Central (3A, 8-1). LAST WEEK: The Rockets opened the state playoffs with a 54-14 win against Miami St. Brendan. THIS WEEK: Naples Lely (8-3). NEXT WEEK: Key West (7-4) at No. 3 Northwestern (10-0).
7. Orlando Edgewater (5A, 11-0). LAST WEEK: The Eagles remained unbeaten with a 33-0 victory over Lakeland Lake Gibson. THIS WEEK: Tampa Bay Tech (9-2). NEXT WEEK: No. 19Tampa Gaither (10-1) or No. 22 Lakeland (8-2).
8. Vero Beach (7A, 11-0). LAST WEEK: The Indians also remained unbeaten in this impressive season with a 57-10 win against Clermont East Ridge. THIS WEEK: Orlando Lake Nona (8-3). NEXT WEEK: Orlando Dr. Phillips (8-3) or Fort Pierce Central (10-1).
9. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1A, 8-2). LAST WEEK: The four-time defending state champions had no problems with Boca Raton St. John Paul II, 63-0. THIS WEEK: Miami Edison (6-4). NEXT WEEK: Boca Raton St. Andrews (10-1) or Miami True North Classical Academy (9-2).
10. Sarasota Booker (3A, 11-1). LAST WEEK: The Tornadoes remained red hot with a dominating 75-0 win against Mulberry. THIS WEEK: Bradenton Bayshore (5-6). NEXT WEEK: Tampa Jefferson (10-1) or Brooksville Nature Coast Tech (9-2).
11. Jacksonville Bolles (2A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Bulldogs scored early and often in a 63-13 win against DeFuniak Springs Walton. THIS WEEK: Tallahassee FSU High (5-6). NEXT WEEK: Santa Rosa Beach South Walton (8-3) or No. 2 Pensacola Catholic (10-1).
12. Sarasota Cardinal Mooney (2A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Cougars continued to show why they are one of the state's best with a 55-7 win against Coconut Creek North Broward Prep. THIS WEEK: Fort Myers Bishop Verot (5-6). NEXT WEEK: Belle Glade Glades Central (10-1) or St. Petersburg Lakewood (10-1).
13. Miami Southridge (6A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Spartans started out in the state playoffs with a convincing 49-0 win against Davie Nova. THIS WEEK: Sunrise Piper (7-4). NEXT WEEK: Coconut Creek Monarch (7-4) or West Broward'] (9-2).
14. Orlando Jones (4A, 9-2). LAST WEEK: The Tigers remained hot with a 35-13 win against Deltona. THIS WEEK: Ocala Vanguard (10-1). NEXT WEEK: Lake Wales (9-2) or No. 26 Zephyrhills (11-0).
15. Tampa Jesuit (4A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: One of the top teams in the state continued to showcase their talent with a 62-0 win against Seminole Osceola. THIS WEEK: Naples (7-3-1). NEXT WEEK: Clearwater (8-3) or Port Charlotte (9-2).
16. Gainesville Buchholz (6A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Bobcats won a thrilling contest with Oviedo, 49-41, to open the state playoffs. THIS WEEK: Ponte Vedra Nease (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Pace (10-1) or No. 23 Jacksonville Mandarin (10-1).
17. DeLand (7A, 11-0). LAST WEEK: The Bulldogs continue to show why they are a team to watch with a 70-21 win against St. Johns Creekside. THIS WEEK: No. 30 Orlando Boone (10-1). NEXT WEEK: Port Orange Spruce Creek (8-3) or Lake Mary (8-3).
18. West Boca Raton (6A, 9-2). LAST WEEK: The defending state champions broke out of the gate with a 35-7 win against Largo. THIS WEEK: Tarpon Springs East Lake (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Trinity Mitchell (9-2) or Palmetto (10-1).
19. Tampa Gaither (5A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: One of the big surprise teams in Florida continued to make some noise with a 56-0 win against Winter Springs. THIS WEEK: No. 22 Lakeland (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Tampa Bay Tech (9-2) or No.7 Orlando Edgewater (11-0).
20. Venice (7A, 7-3). LAST WEEK: The defending state champions began defense with a convincing 49-12 Davenport Ridge Community. THIS WEEK: Winter Garden West Orange (10-1). THIS WEEK: Riverview Sumner (9-2) or Sarasota Riverview (9-1-1).
21. Orlando The First Academy (Independent, 5-5). SEASON OVER.
22. Lakeland (5A, 9-2). LAST WEEK: The Dreadnaughts started the playoffs with a 35-0 win against Wesley Chapel. THIS WEEK: No. 19 Tampa Gaither (9-1). NEXT WEEK: Tampa Bay Tech (9-2) or No. 7 Orlando Edgewater (11-0).
23. Jacksonville Mandarin (6A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Mustangs continued to impress with a 42-14 win against Crestview. THIS WEEK: Pace (10-1). NEXT WEEK: Ponte Vedra Nease (9-2) or No. 16 Gainesville Buchholz (10-1).
24. Saint Augustine (4A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Yellow Jackets rolled to a first round win against Panama City Beach Arnold, 70-21. THIS WEEK: Jacksonville Ed White (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Lake City Columbia (9-2) or No. 29 Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee (10-1).
25. Clearwater Central Catholic (1A, 9-2). LAST WEEK: The defending state runner up Marauders beat Largo Indian Rocks Christian, 45-0. THIS WEEK: Lakeland Victory Christian (5-5). NEXT WEEK: Melbourne Central Catholic (3-7) or Tampa Carrollwood Day (10-0).
26. Zephyrhills (4A, 11-0). LAST WEEK: The Bulldogs remained unbeaten with a 29-0 win against Rockledge. THIS WEEK: Lake Wales (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Ocala Vanguard (10-1) or No. 14 Orlando Jones (9-2).
27. West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (1A, 8-3). LAST WEEK: The Crusaders opened the state playoffs with a 37-0 win against North Palm Beach Benjamin. THIS WEEK: Community School of Naples (8-2). NEXT WEEK: Naples St. John Neumann (8-3) or St. Petersburg Catholic (11-0).
28. Delray Atlantic (5A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Eagles started the state playoffs with a convincing 55-0 win against North Miami. THIS WEEK: Hollywood McArthur (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Coconut Creek (9-2) or No. 2 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (10-1).
29. Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee (4A, 10-1). LAST WEEK: The Indians started their state playoffs with a 49-6 win against Pensacola Booker T. Washington. THIS WEEK: Lake City Columbia (9-2). NEXT WEEK: Jacksonville Ed White (9-2) or No. 24 Saint Augustine (10-1).
