Before the start of every season for the past decade, players, coaches and fans at Chaminade-Madonna Prep know that making vacation plans in November or December is pretty much out of the question.

Under the direction of Dameon Jones, this Hollywood-based school has dominated Class 1A – winning seven state titles – four in a row in dominating fashion.

This is a program that has not only made a name statewide, but they are regarded as one of the best in the country – producing elite talent like the nation's top college sophomore Jeremiah Smith, who has made a major impact at The Ohio State University.

With an assembly line of talent and superior coaching this is a team that came into this season with an amazing streak of nine consecutive state championship appearance, which is something that has never been done before.

While they have a number of young players on this year's roster, they will be overwhelming favorites to win another state title – a fifth in a row.

The Lions began the state playoffs with a 63-0 win against Boca Raton Saint John Paul and will play host on Friday to Miami Edison, a team they beat earlier this season in district play, 56-6.

THE PAST 10 YEARS

IF NOT CHAMINADE, THEN WHO?

If the Lions should falter this season, what team has the talent to win in 1A. Clearwater Central Catholic (9-2) is a team that has been right there behind the Lions and are loaded up with talent.

West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (8-3) has certainly played a challenging schedule and has come up with a few solid wins.

Other programs that could break through include No. 1 seed Tampa Carrollwood Day (10-0), Boca Raton St. Andrew's Academy (10-1), Jacksonville Impact Christian (8-3), the always competitive Jacksonville Trinity Christian (7-4), talented Jacksonville University Christian (8-3), and two very much under-the-radar schools in Miami True North Classical Academy (9-2), a team the Lions would see in the Region 4-1A finals, and the surprising Barons of St. Petersburg Catholic (11-0).
