Week six came in hard and fast as teams start to hit their mid-season form and with it came some sizzling performances.

In a few cases it went beyond sizzling to record breaking.

In this report we are taking a look at all-purpose backs who have been coming up big for their teams all year and continued in that fashion and more this past Friday. And, even in a losing cause as some experienced last Friday, they still delivered when the chips were down.

So without further adieu, let's check out who all was performing at an elite level this past week.

[player_tooltip player_id='426515' first='Brayden' last='Pappas'] , 5'8, 195, RB, Eisenhower, '26, he was already off to a blazing start and then uncorked a record-breaking performance last Friday when he shattered the school record for rushing yards in a game with a jaw-dropping 382 yards on 29 carries, averaging 13.2 yards per carry and scored five TD's. On the season he has carried the ball 130 times for 919 yards and has 14 total touchdowns. He has shown his speed already with a clocking of 21.9 mph earlier in the year but has also shown that he is far more than just a speed back as he is a pounding runner who blows through arm tackles and picks up big yards after the initial hit.

[player_tooltip player_id='780353' first='Drake' last='Mellies'], 5'11, 170, ATH, Jackson Heights, '26, he is another rising star all-purpose back who put up a record-breaking performance last Friday when he had a game for the ages with 501 total yards and 7 touchdowns. On the night he broke the school record for rushing yards with 334 yards on a scant 11 carries and passed for another 167 yards. For the year he has completed 40 of 64 passes for 805 yards, at 63%, with 14 TD passes to only one pick, for a stellar passing rate of 139. On the ground he has gained 774 yards on 49 carries, averaging 16 yards an attempt and another 13 TD's to give him an impressive 1,747 total yards and 27 total TD's. He is also a ballhawk on defense with three interceptions on the year. This guy is en fuego so far in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='1590226' first='Holden' last='Lind'], 5'8, 175, RB, Hays, '26, he has been the Indian workhorse all year and continued building momentum for another dominating season as last Friday he carried the ball 30 times for 304 yards and a touchdown in his team's win over Dodge City. Also coming up big on offense was quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='904445' first='Zane' last='Viegra'], 6'3, 195, QB, Hays, '26, who has developed into a dangerous dual-threat playmaker, rushing for two touchdowns and threw a pair of touchdown passes to standout wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='283949' first='Jarek' last='Purdy'], 6'1, 170, ATH, Hays, '26, who has been red-hot the last three games, torching the opposition with 13 receptions for 204 yards and six touchdowns. This week Hays will face a dangerous Great Bend team in a rivalry match-up between ranked teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='1268347' first='Rylan' last='Morrell'], 5'10, 175, RB/LB, Nickerson, '27, he is coming off a monster night last Friday rushing for 292 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns in helping lead the Panther's to a huge win over Lyons 35-14. The two-way baller has come up big for a team that is playing much better than it's record indicates and has picked up 600+ yards rushing and scored five times on offense to go along with 31 tackles and a pair of tackles for a loss on defense. This guy has been flying under the radar somewhat but is catching the eyes of scouts and coaches with his impressive play this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='904436' first='Augie' last='Fast'] , 6'1, 195, RB, Wichita NW, '26, the Grizzlies sent a message last Friday with a dominating 40-13 win over Manhattan and spearheading that effort was Fast who carried the ball 17 times for 254 yards, averaging a scorching 15-yards per carry and scored three touchdowns. Until last Friday he was off to a somewhat quiet start to the year by his standards after rushing for almost 1,800 yards and averaging nine yards a carry a year ago, but is heating up and through six games and has gained 728 yards on 71 carries, averaging 10+ yards per carry and has 17 total touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='780429' first='Zane' last='Farney'] , 5'11, 185, RB/DB, Sterling, '26, he is off to another blow-out start to a season and last Friday night continued the onslaught when he needed only 10 carries to rush for 249 yards, averaging 25 yards a carry and scoring four touchdowns. The last two years he has rushed for 1,500+ yards each season and this year is on pace to zoom past those yardage totals as he already has 1,130 yards on only 98 carries for an 11.5 yard average and 24 TD's. He has been busy on defense as well, picking up 26 tackles, intercepting a pair of passes and recovering two fumbles through six games. Also having a banner year is teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1545224' first='Wyatt' last='Newberry'], 5'11, 175, ATH, Sterling, '26, who was at it again, this time ripping up Conway with 161 yards on an eye-popping four carries, averaging 40+ yards everytime he touched the ball and scored a pair of TD's. On the year the two-way standout has picked up 612 yards rushing on 45 carries, averaging 13.6 yards per tote and three TD's. On defense he is a headhunter with 54 tackles, six tackles for a loss and a pair of interceptions.

[player_tooltip player_id='1351463' first='Jalik' last='Armstrong'] , 5'10, 170, RB/DB, Wellington, '26, the Crusaders are starting to build some momentum since an early-season loss to powerful Andale and their high-octane offense looks to be hitting on all cylinders as Armstrong had another standout showing, rushing 17 times for 203 yards, averaging 12 yards a carry and scoring four touchdowns. On the year he has 110 carries for 831 yards, and has scored 11 TD's. Also coming up big for the Crusaders was dual-threat gunslinger [player_tooltip player_id='1487563' first='Colton' last='Elmore'], 5'10, 175, QB, '28, who has been red-hot this fall and continued that way last Friday, passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 110 yards on 16 attempts. He is currently leading the state for the class of 2028 with 1,583 total yards and 17 TD's, which includes 1,216 yards passing and another 367 yards rushing.

In conclusion, get out and see this guys while you still can.

And, as always -

Keep Grindin'
