Pennsville (4-4) at Collingswood (5-3)

Two playoff teams with much to gain, seeeding-wise, link up on Friday as Pennsville travels to Collingswood. For the host Collingswood, they sit comfortably at 12 in the South II playoff bracket, but a win against South I's 6th seeded Pennsville ought to have them climbing.

Pennsville is paced by [player_tooltip player_id='1550972' first='Rylan' last='Hardy']. The senior rusher has carried the ball 113 times for 762 yards, while scoring an impressive 11 times. Clearly a run-first offense, their quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1973307' first='Robbie' last='McDade'] has more rushing attempts than passing attempts, going 97 times for 617 yards with 8 scores on the ground, while also throwing two touchdown passes. When McDade does drop back to pass, his primary target is Hardy, who has caught 14 balls for 167 yards - both team highs. Hardy also finds himself the team leader in tackles with 34 (16 solo) and tackles for loss with 3. No other target has more than 7 receptions. Defensively look for [player_tooltip player_id='1973315' first='Perry' last='Meranti'] to patrol the secondary. Meranti leads Pennsville with 2 interceptions, one of which he took back for a score. Additionally, he has made 26 tackles (13 solo), 2 tackles for loss, and recovered 1 fumble. Youngster [player_tooltip player_id='1973320' first='Aidan' last='Collazo'] is a prospect to be mindful of too. Collazo has been credited with 25 tackles, with a team-high 18 solo stops. He also finds himself third on the team with 114 yards and 3 touchdowns on 26 attempts.

Another run-first offense, Collingswood has featured a healthy dose of [player_tooltip player_id='1973323' first='Terrance' last='Goffney']. A junior Goffney should eclipse the 1000 yard mark this game if things go well. On the season he finds himself with 932 yards and 8 touchdowns on 127 totes. Complementing Goffney on the ground is [player_tooltip player_id='1466288' first='Caden' last='Luby']. In Luby's last dance season, he has rushed for 538 yards and 5 scores on 82 attempts. On just 18 receptions, Luby finds himself as the team's leading receiver with 335 yards and 2 scores. However, were Luby really makes his mark is on the defensive side of the ball. Luby leads the team in tackles (77), solo tackles (45), tackles for loss (10), and forced fumbles (1). [player_tooltip player_id='1973325' first='Elgin' last='Baylor'], a sophomore, leads the team in receptions at 22 and scoring touchdowns at 4 with 239 yards through the air. He has also contributed with 11 tackles on defense. Meanwhile, [player_tooltip player_id='1973327' first='Tacere' last='Redd'] does a great job clogging passing lanes. Redd leads the team with 3 interceptions (1 return). He has also recored 3 tackles for loss and 55 total stops (34 solo). Closing out is sophomore talent [player_tooltip player_id='1973329' first='Jaydon' last='Wesley']. In a breakthrough season, he finds himself leading the team with 3 fumble recoveries, while also making 42 tackles, forcing a fumble, and making a stop for loss.

Central Regional (7-1) at Ocean Township (4-4)

In what may not, to the naked eye, seem like a game of the week type of matchup, South IV's 7th-seeded Central Regional travels to Ocean Township to take on the South III's current 19 seed. Although I am not sure how far up Central can realistically climb with a win, Ocean certainly has the possibility to catapult themselves into playoff position with a win - although I suspect they likely need help.

Ocean's offensive attack seems to flow through the play of [player_tooltip player_id='1973331' first='Josh' last='Cailxte']. Cailxte is their leading rusher on the season with 8 scores and 644 yards on 104 carries, while also serving as one of their premier defenders. On defense he has been credited with 37 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery. The backbone of their defense seems to be [player_tooltip player_id='1973333' first='Jake' last='Volek']. Volek, a junior, leads the way with 63 tackles (22 solo) and 11 tackles for loss, while adding 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. [player_tooltip player_id='1973335' first='Taejon' last='Nevins'] has been a disruptor too, having made 5.5 tackles for a loss to go along with 26 total stops.

Central has not played in many close games, which certainly explains why they have rushed the ball 203 times and only thrown 89 times. Moreover, they have gotten the ball to 14 different carriers on the season, while nobody has more than 72 carries. That player, is [player_tooltip player_id='1973338' first='Austin' last='Jarvis']. Jarvis leads the team in rushing yardage (480) and is tied for the team lead with 3 touchdowns. However, defense seems to be where Central wins games - and Jarvis is a big part of that. His 81 total tackles (49 solo, 11 for a loss) are all good for second on the team. He has also found time to force a fumble and intercept a pass as well. [player_tooltip player_id='1953632' first='Gustave' last='Copes'] has been a Shore Conference tidal wave this season. Copes has made 104 tackles (61 solo), 21 tackles for loss, forced a fumble, and recovered one for a score. All of those statistics lead the team. Lastly, [player_tooltip player_id='1607803' first='Zy'shun' last='Carroll'] leads the squad with 2 defensive scores - one on one of his 4 picks and one on the fumble he recovered - while also making 21 total tackles, 20 of which have been solo stops.

Toms River East (4-4) at Pinelands (6-2)

In what might essentially be a play-in game, Toms River East travels to take on Pinelands. Both these teams find themselves currently in the 16th and final playoff spot in their, respective, South IV and South III playoff brackets. You figure that a loss by either squad hurts their chances mightily.

For Pinelands to come out victorious they ought to replicate last week's rushing success they found with senior [player_tooltip player_id='1029760' first='Eric' last='Kobilnyk']. Kobilnyk, who has only carried the ball the last two weeks, went for 179 yards last week. In those two games, he has accumulated 251 yards and 3 scores on 26 attempts. A productive defender all season long, Kobilnyk finds himself with 28.5 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a blocked kick. Prior to those two games, [player_tooltip player_id='1906698' first='RJ' last='Clark'] had been leading the charge. On the year the sophomore ball carrier has done so 95 times for 525 yards with 4 scores. Additionally, he has recorded 2 interceptions this season. The heart and soul of the defense has been [player_tooltip player_id='1906700' first='Paul' last='Veneri']. Also a sophomore, Veneri has had an outstanding debut season. As the team's leading tacklers, he has recorded 76.5 stops (26 solo), 2 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception, and one-half sack. Flanking Veneri is the Pinelands' top disruptor in [player_tooltip player_id='1906703' first='Montrell' last='Carter']. Also a sophomore, Carter is second on the team with 67 tackles (18 solo), but leads the way with 2.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss.

A little thunder-and-lightning action appears to be going on in the Toms River East backfield. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1973345' first='Brandon' last='Siebert'] is the team's leading ball carrier (69), yardage (371), and scorer (4); however, [player_tooltip player_id='1973346' first='Logan' last='Harrison'], a sophomore, has 328 yards on 48 carries with a score - seizing a commanding lead in terms of yards per carry. The youth movement continues as [player_tooltip player_id='1973350' first='Anthony' last='Bonich'], also a sophomore, is having a strong debut season on varsity. Bonich is second on the team with 32 tackles, while also making 3 tackles for loss and a sack. [player_tooltip player_id='1973355' first='Luke' last='Brush'], a senior, leads the way with 62 total stops on 13 solo tackles and 1 for a loss, while also recovering a team-best two fumbles. Lastly, [player_tooltip player_id='1973356' first='Shamus' last='O'Grady'] patrols the trenches. His top-five total of 35 total stops and forced fumble is only outdone by his 3 sacks and 5 tackles for loss.
