10/03: Aquinas Institute Closes Off McQuaid Jesuit, 21-14

The matchup between Aquinas Institute and McQuaid Jesuit displayed an abundance of plays from both sides. Aquinas was able to squeak away with a 21-14 win. On the offensive side for Aquinas, they leaned on [player_tooltip player_id='1621904' first='Jeffery' last='Logan III'] to carry the load in the first half. Logan III had a 1-yard TD and an 83-yard TD before heading out with an injury. At any rate, it was hard to get the ball moving for Aquinas in the second half. To close the game out, they gave the ball to FB CJ Flaherty to pick up tough yardage. Defense played a major factor as [player_tooltip player_id='1624540' first='Frankie' last='Burgess'] was able to be a plug up the middle and recover a fumble. Furthermore, the biggest defensive play came from LB Brody Lennox who intercepted a ball in the red area to then return it for a pick six to end the first half.

McQuaid could not get much going through the air, as they had to rely on the ground game to get points on the board. Conversely, RB Thomas Bailey was a player who was fed often and early. Bailey added to the scoreboard with a 1-yard TD rush. Henceforth, FB Dominic Bianchi had a 4th quarter touchdown run to tighten up the game. In contrast, the McQuaid defense was able to cause critical stops and turnovers, but it did fall short in the end score.

10/03 Hilton Shuts-Out Undefeated Brighton, 22-0

The game that had everyone in Section V talking as Hilton pitched their second straight shutout in back-to-back weeks vs. Brighton. What makes the win even more impressive for Hilton is that Brighton is undefeated on the year. Shutting down a team of Brighton's caliber only makes Hilton's win that much more impressive. The star player of the game was QB/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1393792' first='Matt' last='Kosiorek'], who made an impact on both offense and defense. In like fashion, Kosiorek was able to lead impressive drives for points and make an incredible interception in the 4th quarter. Additionally, LB Calvin Starwald was able to make impactful tackles, and RB Tyler Reger did show up in the run game when his number was called upon. Nevertheless, that showed in a goalline TD's for Reger.

For Brighton, obviously there were not many bright spots to walk away with on the night with a shutout. Brighton is a strong ball club that has the talent to go very far in the playoffs, so I do expect them to bounce back.
