Scouting 2027 Edge Rusher Class: Stars, Sleepers, and Secrets

The junior season is perhaps the most important year for recruits to put a strong resume on tape for college coaches to see and evaluate their games and the level of prospect they project them to turn into at the next level. In this edition of the series, we take a look at some of the intriguing names to monitor in the state of Tennessee for the 2027 recruiting cycle at the edge rusher position.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOUTING THE STARS </h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1310642' first='Antwan' last='Jackson'] is an athletic edge rusher with very good to elite size in a powerful frame that allows for him to win in a lot of different ways and alignments.   He is still raw but has the length and athleticism to make plays happen from a traditional outside linebacker role while also applying pressure from starting with his hand in the dirt.   I need to see more of him as an actual edge rusher, but the tools are there to be an effective player as he continues to grow into his frame and explosiveness.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOUTING THE SLEEPERS </h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1357924' first='Hans' last='Emery Julien'] a long, wiry edge rusher that with strong athleticism and motor traits and is just scratching the surface of what he can be as a prospect off the edge.   He has very good size at 6-foot-3 with a 6-foot-7 wingspan that allows for him to win with his explosive speed, but also hold off blocks from the tackle to work himself into position to pressure the quarterback.   His length and relentless motor allow for him to disengage from blocks and hunt down ball carriers.   A former basketball player who played above the rim, he is just beginning to realize how good of a prospect he can actually become.     [player_tooltip player_id='1103040' first='Jaxson' last='Perry'] is a sturdy edge rusher with good size, athleticism, and play recognition, all of which allows for him to blow up plays in the backfield.   He is a tad undersized and is continuing to add to his initial explosiveness, but he recognizes plays immediately and moves fast once the play starts, making him a tough blocking assignment for opposing offenses.   He showed out great at Under Armour Nashville and has continued to flash his athleticism as a tight end on offense, with several explosive plays.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCOUTING THE SECRETS </h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1591156' first='Zeke' last='Walkup'] is one of the best-kept secrets in the state and is an edge rusher with very good length, a strong yet lean frame, and good athleticism.   He has a long frame and is a fluid mover allowing for him to bring constant pressure to a backfield from the start of the play until the end.   He has a strong frame that can set the edge and disengage from blockers to make a play against the run.   He can tend to play upright and could improve his leverage, but the tools are there to be a top edge rusher prospect in the state and is one of the most underrated recruits in the state of Tennessee.
