When it comes to picking the teams who will get to Miami for this year's state championships, there are some clear-cut favorites in several classifications.

We know that Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A) has won six straight titles, and Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1A) has dominated its class for over a decade. But what about 7A?

We know that Venice is the defending state champions and the Indians have been to the title game three straight years and are always loaded.

Add in the fact that the south is NOT loaded with teams who could pose a true threat to what Venice has been able to put together. For that reason, you have to feel that the Indians, with a competitive schedule, great coaching and plenty of talent would be the favorite to be one of the programs. But who else has a great chance to land at Pitbull Stadium on the campus of FIU?

Vero Beach (9-0) has made the most noise this season, winning some key games. So, have 8-0 DeLand and unbeaten Orlando Boone (9-0), but who else could make a realistic run?

The next group of programs would have to include defending state runners up Lake Mary (5-3), who have been less than stellar, but always has that factor of being down this road before. Also, Winter Garden West Orange (8-1) and Orlando Dr. Phillips (7-2).

There is that next group that also must be watched – with Miami Palmetto (7-2), Jupiter (9-0), Fort Pierce Central (8-1) and even Miami Christopher Columbus (3-7), who has not enjoyed a solid season, but cannot be ignored. The Explorers losses were all to winning programs and defending state champions such as Miami Northwestern and St. Thomas Aquinas.

WHO MADE NEWS IN WEEK 10?
