With game 5 in the books and district/playoff competition just around the corner, we are beginning to see some of the elite teams separate themselves from the pack.

There is also plenty of parity to go around as quite a few nail-biters went down to the wire last Friday.

The upsets and surprises popped up here and there but the top teams in each classification probably won't see much movement when the rankings come out later this week.

In the meantime, there are a ton of outstanding performances and close games to take a closer look at.

In today's report we will dive into nine ballers who had big games last Friday, then check on six guys who put up mind-bending performances in game five, before wrapping up with a shout out to a couple of guys who sustained season-ending injuries last Friday as well as give everyone a head's up on some big transfer news.

So, without further adieu, let's check out how these guys did last Friday:

GREAT PERFORMANCES:

GODDARD 31, ANDOVER CENTRAL 23

[player_tooltip player_id='1530365' first='Erik' last='Olivas'], 5'9, 175, RB, Goddard, '27, leading the way in Goddard's powerful run game, he carried the ball 20 times for 212 yards, averaging 11 yards per carry, including a sizzling 94-yard TD run and added a pair of scores. On the year he has 738 yards on 91 carries, six TD's, caught five passes for 210 yards, for 1,048 total yards and nine TD's.

Brock Sullivan, 6'1, 205, QB, Goddard, '27, also coming up big leading the Goddard offense in their 31-23 victory over Andover Central, he ran for 81 yards on 18 carries and a pair of TD's. On the year this dual threat has completed 37-72 passes for 575 passing yards and nine TD's, for 656 total yards and 11 TD's through five games.

GARDEN PLAIN, 15, HAVEN 14,

[player_tooltip player_id='1544687' first='Cole' last='Brawner'], 5'10, 170, RB/LB, Haven, '28, the sophomore had another standout game pounding the rock in a heartbreaker of a loss to Garden Plain last Friday. On the night he carried the ball 22 times for 204 yards, for a nine yard average and a pair of scores. For the year he has 839 yards rushing on 118 carries. He also added 30 tackles, three tackles for loss and picked off two passes on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1590403' first='Braylen' last='Dold'], 5'11, 175, RB/DB, Garden Plain, '28, on the other side of the ball, this two-way baller came up big for his team as he has done all year. Last Friday he ran for 172 yards on 17 carries and a TD and picked off a pass. Through five games he has piled up just under 500 yards of total offense, rushing 39 times for 356 yards, averaging 9+ yards per carry, and adding 121 yards in returns. On defense he has made 17 tackles, three tackles for loss and intercepted a pass.

PRATT 35, COLLEGIATE 0

Cade Liggett, 6'0, 195, RB/LB, Pratt, '28, he continued a great start to the 2025 season by helping lead his team's dominating shutout with 19 carries for 207 yds rushing and five TD's. The two-way threat who boasts the top 200m time in all classes last year has 676 total yards on 75 carries and has contributed 21 tackles on defense as well.

Kyle Barker, 5'11, 175, RB/LB, Pratt, '27, also coming up big for Pratt on defense with a team-leading 46 tackles through five games, he also added three tackles for loss and blocked a punt. He started the season ready to go as he stacked up 17 tackles in their only loss of the year in game one against Hoisington.

LIBERAL 39, GARDEN CITY 34

[player_tooltip player_id='1075837' first='Tevin' last='Cotter'], 6'0, 185, QB, Liberal, '28, he is one of my favorite young guns out in Western Kansas who I have been following since he started as a freshman last year. He has picked up where he left off last season in a big way, going 26 of 36 for 384 yards and five touchdowns last Friday in leading his team to the win over Garden City. On the year he is a sparkling 63 of 103 for 1,029 yards, a 65% completion percentage, 17 TD passes and only three picks.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115792' first='James' last='Fieser'], 6'2, 185, WR, Liberal, '26, when Cotter was airing it out he went to his game-breaker wideout who dominated in the win with 15 receptions for 226 yards and three touchdowns. On the year he has been a dynamic target hauling in 30 passes through five games for 541 yards and 11 total TD's.

[player_tooltip player_id='1612738' first='Max' last='Holman'], 5'10, 165, WR, Liberal, '27, also coming up big in the passing game, this junior has stepped up to take some of the pressure off Fieser and had an excellent game last Friday, hauling in five passes for 77 yards and a pair of scores. On the year he has caught 10 passes for 144 yards and three TD's.

DOMINATOR GAMES:

[player_tooltip player_id='1664431' first='Savion' last='Stone'] , 6'3, 205, QB, KC Washington, '26, 9 TD game - so far in the 2025 season this dual-threat gunslinger has blown the doors off of his game as one of the top QB's in the state. Last Friday he put up an eye-popping stat line as he completed 15 of 16 passes for 323 yards and four TD's through the air and rushed five times for 68 more yards and five scores. For the year he has 1,267 passing yards, 792 rushing yards, for 2,059 total yds, 18 TD passes to zero picks, for a 70%+ completion percentage, and a dozen rushing TD's to give him an incredible 30 total touchdowns through five games.

[player_tooltip player_id='1643737' first='Reign' last='Illian'], 6'4, 215, QB, Maize South, '27, 8 TD game - also coming out with a scorching hot game last Friday, this sharp shooter continued airing it out going 21 of 27 for 371 yds, fired five touchdown passes, rushed for 65 yards on the ground and added three more TD's. So far through five games he has completed 114 of 166 passes for 1,376, a 70% completion percentage and a lofty 102 passer rating, 14 TD passes, and five rushing scores.

[player_tooltip player_id='1331128' first='Cole' last='Frank'] , 5'11, 185, QB/RB/LB, Wabaunsee, '26, 7 TD game - also breaking out in a big-time way, this standout baller put together a high-flying seven-TD night last Friday. He has stepped up big all year on defense and reminded everyone that he has a playmaker game on offense as well, when he carried the ball 35 times for a jaw-dropping 342 yards rushing and seven scores.

[player_tooltip player_id='1487563' first='Colton' last='Elmore'], 5'10, 175, QB, Wellington, '28, 6 TD game, the Crusader gunslinger came up big when his team needed it completing 16 of 27 passes for 286 yds and rifled five touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also rushed for 72 yards on 10 carries and scored another TD to give him six total on the night and just enough offense to pick up win-number four.

Brody Haskell, 6'1, 170, QB, Augusta, '26, he is a dual-threat athlete who has flown under the radar so far but has been red-hot rallying his team to keep them competitive through the first five games. Last Friday he matched Elmore in production for most of the night, going 17 for 28 for 322 yards and three touchdowns in a heartbreaking loss to Wellington 49-48.

[player_tooltip player_id='1515918' first='Peyton' last='Hare'], 6'2, 205, QB/LB, Eureka, '26, another guy not getting much attention yet, he stepped up big once again in his team's 30-12 win over Bluestem last Friday, with 180 yards rushing and three TDs, to go along with 84 yds passing and another TD. He has parlayed his sub-50 second 400m for 2nd in state and school record in the 200m into a dangerous game this fall where he is threat to take it to the house on every play. ,

INJURY REPORT - TRANSFER NEWS - MISC

[player_tooltip player_id='1403517' first='Haydon' last='Hull'], 6'2, 175, Ottawa, '26, this highly-touted gunslinger was off to a great start before suffering a season-ending injury this past Friday

[player_tooltip player_id='904450' first='Beckett' last='Linden'], 5'11, 210, LB, BVNW, '26, also playing well through the first half of the season, he unfortunately sustained a season-ending knee injury last week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1166125' first='Colt' last='Curry'], 6'2, 205, QB, Maize, '27, TRANSFER - this dual-threat QB/ATH, started the season playing for Lawrence. Before moving to the Wichita-area he was off to a good start statisically and in a close season-opening loss to Olathe South, going 12-19 for 153 yards. The rich get richer as he brings his high-ceiling game to the #1 team in the state.

In conclusion, get out and see these guys in action this fall – you will not be disappointed.

And, as usual…

Keep grindin'

With game 5 in the books and district/playoff competition just around the corner, we are beginning to see some of the elite teams separate themselves from the pack.
