GREENVILLE | The goal for Christ Church coming in was to earn an area win, meaning they beat an opponent in Greenville County.

They accomplished that goal, routing Carolina 52-20 on Friday night behind a big night from [player_tooltip player_id='293593' first='Michael' last='Martin'] (pictured above), who scored four touchdowns and ran hard all throughout the evening.

“I'm an all-purpose back. I can block, catch and run but my main goal is to score every single play. Don't go down on the first hit and get to the endzone,” Martin told Prep Redzone SC after the game.

The Cavaliers got off to a quick start with a big kickoff return from Martin down to the 6-yard line. It took one play for them to get on the board as [player_tooltip player_id='1199124' first='Judd' last='Windham'] connected with [player_tooltip player_id='1821096' first='Hampton' last='Shields'] for a 6-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead with 11:43 in the opening quarter.

Facing 3rd and 12 on their opening possession, Trojans' quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1667546' first='Jordyn' last='Rice'] found [player_tooltip player_id='1820327' first='Kyleat' last='Belcher'] for a big gain on a shallow for a first down. The drive stalled once they got past midfield as they were forced to punt as [player_tooltip player_id='1628240' first='William' last='Childers'] brought pressure on a third down, and he was a constant presence in the backfield throughout the evening.

[player_tooltip player_id='1213961' first='Anthony' last='Atkins'] was another star for the Cavs – he made a nice catch near the sideline on a playaction pass. They went back to him on the next play and he did a good job of sticking his toe in the ground. Martin would cap the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run as Christ Church took a 14-0 lead with 6:56 to play in the opening quarter.

It seemed for every time Carolina got into Christ Church territory, things would stall past midfield, like we saw with drops on second and third down, and eventually fourth down late in the first quarter. Despite missing two key contributors due to injury and illness, when it counted, the Cavs made the stops when they needed to.

“We weren't quite running at full speed on defense, and even before that we weren't really getting after them like we normally do so that's something we've got to watch the tape. We've got to clean that up as we move forward,” Christ Church coach Quin Hatfield said.

The Cavaliers took advantage as Windham found star receiver [player_tooltip player_id='816751' first='Jude' last='Hall'] for a long touchdown to go up 21-0 with 3:58 to play in the first quarter.

Carolina would make it interesting as [player_tooltip player_id='1820325' first='DJ' last='Brown'] got them into Christ Church territory on a shallow route and Belcher got them inside the 1-yard line. Rice would cap the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run on the zone read and the extra point was good as they cut into the lead at 21-7 with 8:31 to play before the half.

[player_tooltip player_id='1821096' first='Hampton' last='Shields'] did a good job looking the ball into his hands on a route to the sideline. They got into Carolina territory but settled for a [player_tooltip player_id='1823699' first='Ryan' last='Von Wyl'] field goal, to make it 24-7 with 5:47 to play before the half.

[player_tooltip player_id='1718897' first='Caleb' last='Gamble'] did a nice job of sitting in the zone coverage for a first down on the next series, but on the very next play, [player_tooltip player_id='1821094' first='Augustus' last='De Brux'] jumped the route for a pick six, turning things into a sizable lead for Hatfield's squad at 31-7 with 3:32 to play before halftime.

[player_tooltip player_id='1823700' first='Bates' last='Mann'] made a great catch over the middle for a first down inside the 50 on a drive with under two minutes to play before the half, and Martin capped the drive with his second score of the night, which would be the halftime score at 38-7. Multiple guys saw the ball as Windham got it to his receivers, and that's something that started last offseason.

“It's a really good connection. It started last spring with the 7-on-7s, but what I really appreciate about this group is they're unselfish. You've only got one football, right? Between Mike and Judd, Jude and all those guys you mentioned, so I'm really proud of them for accepting their role and getting open and getting the ball when they can. Jude did have a big night tonight which was good to see from him,” Hatfield said.

Martin and Hall would find the endzone each respectively in the third quarter, along with [player_tooltip player_id='1312472' first='Bryson' last='McMoore'] for the Trojans before Rice found the endzone for the second time on the night late to close the scoring in the fourth quarter.

George Michael Stathakis took a nice angle to the ball for a sack late in the second quarter. [player_tooltip player_id='1821089' first='John' last='Waldrop'] had a nicely timed jump to knock the ball away in the third quarter.

Chap Montgomery had a nice pass breakup on 4th down with 7:59 to play in the third quarter.

Carolina Team Notes

[player_tooltip player_id='1824654' first='Amir' last='Abercrombie'] had a pass breakup and got his hands up to deflect the ball into the grass in the first quarter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1820324' first='Jeremiah' last='Wells'] did a nice job of closing off the edge for a tackle for loss in the second quarter.
