Over the first two weeks of the high school football season, we have already previewed 20 matchups that certainly grabbed the attention of fans across the Sunshine State.

Last week there were several contests that we spotlighted that either ended up with an upset or came down to the wire.

Because there are so many outstanding teams, you know that each and every week there will be games that everyone wants to see.

Sorting through these Week 3 matchups were not easy. There were some really good games played last night on Thursday, so we had to do a lot of homework on tonight's key games that will have plenty of attention.

Check these 10 contests out:

Clearwater (2-0) at St. Petersburg Lakewood (2-0). With two consecutive wins to start the season, the Spartans believe that this could be the year that they make an impact at the 2A level. But the Tornadoes also feel that after the first two weeks, they can also make a statement with a win on the road.

No. 27 Cocoa (1-1) at No. 23 Vero Beach (2-0). A tough opening night win against Merritt Island followed by a loss against Daytona Beach Mainland in the second week has the three-time defending state champions on the road against a program that feels they have the talent to make a serious run in 7A. This promises to be one of the elite games this week.

Fleming Island (2-0) at Orange Park Oakleaf (2-0). With two big wins to start the year, the Knights are at home with something to prove to those who are non-believers. To get to 3-0 they will have to beat a Golden Eagles team that has averaged 42 points over the first two games. Should be interesting.

No. 2 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (1-1) at No. 16 Miami Christopher Columbus (0-1). Last year, during their run for a sixth straight state title, the Raiders had their way at home with the Explorers, but this is a different year, and even though they lost on the road in Maryland, Columbus feels optimistic about what they have. This is a rivalry that needs to be played every season.

No. 7 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1-1) at No. 2 Plantation American Heritage (1-0). The defending 4A state champions came from 28-0 down on opening night two weeks ago to beat St. Joseph's Academy from Philadelphia. The Lions were soundly beaten in the first game and struggled against Hollywood McArthur last week in a wakeup call. On the surface this is a great matchup, but we will see how things play out.

Oradell Bergen Catholic, New Jersey (1-0) at No. 8 West Boca Raton (1-0). After a dominating performance against Wellington Palm Beach Central last week, the defending 6A state champions are pumped up for this national meeting at home against a very impressive program that beat powerhouse East St. Louis in their opener last week. A great test for both schools.

No. 20 Saint Augustine (2-0) at No. 12 Jacksonville Bolles (2-0). Two of the best teams in the state will have the chance to emerge from this matchup with a quality resume. The Bulldogs have dominated in both wins so far and the Yellow Jackets have fared the same, outscoring their two opponents, 89-6. If you are in this area, make plans to attend.

No. 22 Tallahassee Lincoln (2-0) at Ponte Vedra Nease (2-0). Last year the Panthers were a surprise as one of the top 6A programs in Florida, and after two weeks, they are poised for another run. They are at home against a team that has been building as a team to watch in 5A, and after wins against powers Madison County and Niceville, respect is a win away.

No. 30 Tampa Jesuit (2-0) at Valdosta, Georgia (3-0). After two impressive wins to begin the year, the bar is going to be raised very high as the Tigers it the road to play a national power that has average 60 points in each of the first three wins of the season. A statement game for this program!

The Villages Charter (2-0) at Groveland South Lake (2-0). Two up and coming programs in the state will clash this week after two successful games to start the year out. The 2A Buffalo has dominated 91-20 in wins against Wildwood and Lecanto – while the 6A Eagles are out to capture another district title. Big road test for The Villages Charter.
