ALBUQUERQUE – Unbeaten Los Alamos is the first team in New Mexico to reach six wins as a result of the Hilltoppers' 62-12 mercy-rule win over Del Norte Thursday night at Milene Stadium.

Hilltoppers running back [player_tooltip player_id='1604744' first='Jordan' last='Herrera'] led the offensive charge, as he has all season long. Herrera rushed for 272 yards and 4 TD as Los Alamos scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and built a 42-12 halftime advantage. They continued to build on the lead in the third quarter and ended the game in the fourth.

Herrera, who possesses a quick step, excellent speed to the outside and fearlessly takes on defenders between the tackles and in the open field, scored three TD in the pivotal second quarter.

His first came moments into the quarter after the Los Alamos defense stopped Del Norte on fourth down near midfield. Moments later, Herrera took the handoff and galloped 44 yards down the right sideline for the score. The successful 2-point conversion gave the Hilltoppers a 28-6 lead.

When Del Norte scored on a long run, Los Alamos needed just over 90 seconds to respond. Herrera's 22-yard scamper on a swing pass made it 35-12 with 7:58 left in the second quarter. He saved his best run for last as he sprinted 80 yards for a TD with 2:36 left to give the Hilltoppers the 42-12 halftime lead.

Los Alamos struck quickly when [player_tooltip player_id='1787566' first='Carlo' last='Baca'] returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. He snagged the ball on the bounce, ran up the middle and then cut to the outside, outrunning Del Norte's coverage team into the end zone.

[player_tooltip player_id='1606095' first='Ben' last='Brousseau'] sandwiched a TD run and a 19-yard TD reception on a screen pass around Del Norte's 40-yard TD pass from QB [player_tooltip player_id='1826079' first='Nicholas' last='Archuleta'] to WR Markus Minter to give Los Alamos a 21-6 lead after the first quarter.

Herrera scored his fourth TD of the night when Los Alamos recovered a Del Norte fumble on the second half kickoff and he ran up the middle into the end zone from 5 yards out. The Hilltoppers made it 56-12 midway through the third quarter and finished off the Knights in the fourth with the final score of the night to invoke NMAA's 50-point mercy rule and boost their record to a perfect 6-0.
