For as many high-profile passing attacks are prevalent in the Lowcountry, Week 2 may be the week when everyone raises their eye brows a bit at the tailback play.

In fact, it's starting to look like this zone may be defined by it.

There are two reasons it may all come to light this Friday.

For starters, the wet bulb won't be as active on the coast this week, as temperatures start to become a little more amicable for tailbacks and - more importantly - the linemen blocking for them.

Next, the offseason rust is starting to fall off quickly.

These 10 running backs could really start hitting their stride in Week 2.

[player_tooltip player_id='1172364' first='Mah'ky' last='Green'] Cross

The Trojans have seen something on film that (rightfully) made them think they could overwhelm opponents more through the air than the ground during the first two weeks of the season. Considering Cross started with a pair of 30-point wins, we tend to agree with the strategy. What it's also done is give Green more time to ease into his RB1 job. We think this week's game against Timberland is when the junior starts to get more carries.

[player_tooltip player_id='1165165' first='Jaylen' last='Singletary'] Hampton County

Singletary is one of the most dangerous tailbacks in the state. And we mention that first because he's probably been overlooked by way too many fans. We understand part of that. Simply, Singletary hasn't had to really break a sweat through the first two weeks of the season, blowout wins against Colleton County and Allendale-Fairfax. Singletary's only had 12 carries so far. Granted, five of those 12 resulted in him standing in the end zone. If he gets a real workload against Silver Bluff, watch out.

Most of the Lowcountry has seen what Holley can do. When he was held out last week as a precaution, fans got to see Howell (pictured) was more than capable as well. The Bobcats' corner/safety stepped in at tailback and rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns and hauled in three passes for 68 yards. Both will see reps at tailback this week, and as coach Hayden Gregory put it, it gives Bluffton a thunder and lightning situation. Against Savannah Country Day, it could mean this offense starts clicking more than it already was after a pair of seven-touchdown games to start the year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1822192' first='Mitchell' last='Plaisance'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1592547' first='Brody' last='Tonon'] Bishop England

While Bishop England should still be a considerable favorite of Hanahan this week, the Bishops will get more of a test than they did in a 70-0 blowout over St. John's. And that means more than seven rushing attempts for Plaisance and Tonon. Sure, those two put up three combined touchdowns with those seven carries, but the ultimate goal for the two of them is to balance out a high-flying passing attack down the stretch run of the regular season. We believe that balance starts against Hanahan, another offense that has been throwing quite a bit in its own right so far this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='473024' first='Ryan' last='Campbell'] Ashley Ridge

Campbell's Ashley Ridge career has started off nicely. He put up 160 total yards and three touchdowns in the loss to Berkeley and then 201 and four in helping the Swamp Foxes run past Cane Bay. But now its time for the senior to start flexing on a more consistent basis. We already know he's a home run threat every time he touches the ball. But beginning this week at Wando, how much Ashley Ridge needs him to produce increases week by week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1151306' first='Bryson' last='McGee'] Berkeley

McGee was forced to sit out last week's win over Winter Park (Fla.), and it opened the door for LJ Washington to get another 16 carries and his first career varsity 100-yard game. And while McGee still might start the high-profile game at Summerville, Berkeley will put him into action early and often. Not only does McGee have game-changing speed; the Stags also need a tailback to ease the workload on [player_tooltip player_id='1036733' first='Henry' last='Rivers'] at quarterback. The junior standout ran the ball 16 times against Winter Park, and the staff probably doesn't want that becoming the norm.

[player_tooltip player_id='1215391' first='Jayven' last='Williams'] Summerville

Summerville split their first two games, and while Williams produced both rushing and catching the ball, it's notable that he and his teammates had just three days between those first two games and weren't exactly playing slack opponents. In the matchup of the week in the Lowcountry between the Green Wave and Berkeley, Williams is the biggest stabilizing force on this offense. He should get a lot of touches as Summerville tries to bounce back from last week's loss to South Florence.

[player_tooltip player_id='473027' first='Meliq' last='McGowan'] Stratford

McGowan's offseason included continued rehab from a shoulder injury and then his transfer to Stratford. He's been rewarded with a pair of 100-yard games in the process. And while his running ability is the top priority, we pin-pointed this week as his chance to expand on the other part of his game, catching the ball out of the backfield. He had one reception each in each of his first two games, and that number may start to tick up this week against Fort Dorchester.
